Pokémon Shield Review

This game has created quite a bit of controversy over this past year for fans and pretty much splitting them down the middle. But I am not going to get into the main problems with this game yet, so I am going to break down the game into different parts and I have a special part for where I do have my problems with the game.

Galar Pokémon:
With this being a new region, this also brings in a large new pool Pokémon for use trainers to use and to mix with Pokémon we currently use and come up with new strategies. When I saw the images for the new starters, I wasn’t that sure with them, mainly for the fact that we didn’t know what their evolution could be (also the possibility that Scorbunny would be another Fire/Fighting type). But when I started playing the game, I was going with Scorbunny for my first play through (I bought the dual pack so Sword is going to be my replay game) and when I evolved it and found that it was just a pure fire type I was glad to see that it was a mono since most of the starts nowadays tends to be dual typing.

I also found that the designs for several Pokémon had really cool designs, such as Impidimp and its evolutionary line, Corviknight designs is my favourite bird design from any generation and of course, going of using it in battle quite a few time and helping me get through the Champions Cup is Duraludon, it looks so sharp and cool and it just looks like something that could just easily wreck anything that it comes in his way. Another Pokémon that I used that I thought was a cool from the game that I haven’t gotten yet (at the time of me writing this) is Dreepy and its evolution line, that and also that I think Dragapult sort of reminds me of a serpent like version of Mega Salamence.

Another thing that I enjoyed about this game, like with Gen 7 and the Alolan Forms, we got our own Galarian Forms in which not only did we get new designs for Pokémon such as Zigzagoon and Weezing but we also got for the first time new evolutions. The first that we saw was that of Obstagoon, which everybody pretty much made instant connections to Gene Simmons from Kiss. But there were some Pokémon that I didn’t know that had Galarian forms such as one that I used for most of the game before swapping out for the previously mentioned Duraludon and that was Meowth and its evolution of Perrserker. The design was something really out there and weirdly it reminded me a lot of a Digimon which I did rather like.

Galar Region:
The Galar region is quite possibly my favourite region that there is to date, and that is not being the fact that I do come from England where the game is heavily based from, but it is a really wonderfully designed area. The opening village area is so quaint and peaceful it does remind me a lot of the countryside, which in real life England is really nice and it was nice to see it replicated into the game. We also then get a big cross into cities and then the larger cities with multiple districts. Motostoke, Hammerlocke and Wyndon are the three largest cities in the game and all three are important as well. I like Wyndon the most since that it does take a lot of inspiration from London and you can easily see it from several of the building as well as the replica of the London Eye.

The other new feature to the Galar region is the Wild Area where a lot of the new features to the game do come into play. The Wild Area is a large portion of the region in which Pokémon inhabit and they can range from pretty much anything that is there in game and also stronger Pokémon, and depending on your level and how many Gym Badges that you have can be a good addition for your team since they are several levels ahead of the regular overworld and encounterable Pokémon. For instance, the first Pokémon that I ended up encountering was an Onix that was about five levels higher than what my Scorbunny was and it pretty much got wiped out by it. Another cool thing about the area is that there are additional things that you can do in the area from gathering food resources to use to make curries in the Pokémon Camp, you can also get the Rotom bike and participate in Rallies around the area to earn Watts, a sub currency in the game that is rather similar to the Battle Points in which you can use to exchange for Technical Records, Poke Balls and Wishing Pieces which are used to help spawn Raid Pokémon. Overall, I love the Wild Area and found it a useful place to train and help for the final push of the main story.

The Gym Challenge:
One thing that I have missed over these past few years has been the Gym system since Sun/Moon opted for a new system. But when they announced the return to the Gyms, I was glad to see them return and with quite a big twist to it as well. The Gym challenge is a breath of fresh air from the precious instalments of the games for a few things. The first is that this game has a lot of pageantry. The only way that there are Gym Challengers is if they are endorsed by somebody in this case you and your rival are endorsed by the Champion, who happens to be your rivals’ brother. Then you head to the first main city and partake in an opening ceremony where you get your uniform and are introduced to seven of the eight Gym Leaders.

Next you make your way to the first gym and this is where you find out about Gym Challenge and this is something that I like. Like each gym has a specific typing, each Gym has their own challenge before you can go off and face the Leader. Just as an idea and not to get that much into spoiler territory for a game that’s been out for a week, the first Gym has a rather simple challenge to do. That is simply you need to guide the Wooloo from one side of the gym to the other and making sure that all of them get there. There are challenges along the way such as trainers wanting to battle you, in my playthrough I only had to face off against one trainer and there were also some Yamper’s there to split up the Wooloo to make it a more of a challenge to do.

The Gym Leaders are some of the rather best used in a while. The first three leaders are your usual Grass, Water and Fire types in which they have a lot of cool Pokémon that they use, which I might end up using when I do my playthrough on Sword. One cool thing about this game is that there are version exclusive Gym Leaders as well, with Shield getting Allister and Melony and Sword getting Bea and Gordie. Another cool thing about the game is when you get to the final city of Wyndon for the finals and it turns out that when you beat your rivals, you pretty much get put into a better take on a Elite Four and something more akin to the Anime in which your in a tournament to face off against The Champion and you have to defeat the Gym Leaders again. This is something that I like a lot more than having specialist trainers since it pretty much shows that all the Gym Leaders are on the same level as each other and the main character.

The other new feature of the game is that of Dynamax in which certain places in the game mainly Gym’s and Raid Battles in which you can fight super-sized Pokémon and for the ones in Raids the chance to also capture them.

There are certain Pokémon that can Gigantamax and they tend to be the more difficult ones to encounter in the Wild Areas with using NPC’s since they are a lot more difficult to battle with as well as not having the best move pool, however it does seem to be better to do it online with people online. But with the Gigantamax Pokémon they also come with some really awesome designs and one that always stands out to me is the one for Corviknight since that it appears that his form comes with smaller birds that surround it.

The moves though for Dynamax are rather resembling that to the Z-Moves of S/M in which they are an increased in power in comparison to the base move stats. Some of them are pretty cool since they also do additional things such as stat moves, either increasing or decreasing, weather changes and terrain changes. These can be rather useful in matches since when I fought the champion they used the Grass Max Move in which it lays down Grassy Terrain in which anybody that’s touching the field they regain health at the end of the turn and it also helped me get the win.

The story for the game is rather interesting since that it is rather similar in ways to that of both XY and ORAS. Basically, the villain is rather misguided and is having his endorsement going around gathering Wishing Stars to fuel his new powerplant to create a new energy source for the region and it turns out that he was using it to create a new Darkest Day event.

The Darkest Day is something that you discover throughout the course of the event with the thanks to Sonia, that Professors grand-daughter and assistant who was Leon’s friend and rival. She is the one that links you in a lot with the legends and the mythos of the region and also discovers that the legends that they have might not turn out to be fully true. Since the first part of the history in which you find a statue in a hotel of a warrior brandishing a Sword and Shield. Then later you find out that there was in fact two heroes and then finally you find another statue that was hidden behind a mural of the two heroes and what appears to be the two cover legends behind each of them.

The story continues through the Champions Cup and then into the post-game and I’m rather curious on to see where that is going to take me.

The Bad Points:
As I said in the beginning of this post there are things that I do find about this game.

The first thing that I had a problem with is was with the change in TM pool and the early TM’s that you get in the game. It is rather hard to get a rather good move pool together since a lot of the early TM’s don’t seem to be that good and it does make me feel like I’m playing Red and Blue in which I didn’t think that they were that good, but the TR’s do make up for them but they are harder to come across mainly because they cost Watts and not money.

The second problems that I had with the game pretty much had to do more with the community than it did with the actual game. The amount of people that were complaining about the game was rather overwhelming and it really annoyed me that the game wasn’t out yet and people were just making wild accusations and following other people instead of using their own thoughts. When it was revealed that there was not going to be a National Dex I wasn’t that really bothered about it for this one fact: THERE WASN’T A NATIONAL DEX IN SUN AND MOON. But there was also the rumbling that Game Freak wasn’t going to be adding more Pokémon into the game and more fans were furious about this and my reaction was that I really didn’t care. I preferred this for this fact, it gives me more of a chance to try new Pokémon and Pokémon that I normally don’t use. I also don’t know why people are complaining about the fact that they were also reusing models of Pokémon from last gen because here’s the thing, they look a lot better than what they did when they were on the 3DS, they have better colour and better shading than before. Also, I think the reason why people also forget is that they also must have did new models for the overworld Pokémon since they are models that move around and there were only a few that actually did that in the previous games.

Overall I think that this was one of the more strongest games from the series and that it has been something that is has been really enjoyable to play and I look forward to delve into the Post-Game content and to see what Gen 8 and onwards has on the Switch.
So, come back next week where there is going to be a bit of a change in what I DID have originally plan as I head back into the comic books and we look at Batman/Superman #1-3

Top Ten Favourite Pokémon

With a franchise that is currently over twenty years old and a sequel to last year’s instalments due out in November I think it’s time that I did a top ten lists of my favourite Pokémon and for this list it is going to mainly come from my experiences from the games and not from other mediums.

10: Hydreigon: Playing through Pokémon Black, I came across a Deino and I caught it and then spent what seemed to be forever to try and get it evolved through Zweilous to finally get Hydreigon out and boy was it a useful to have. A combination of being a Dark type along with Dragon meant that it would be useful for the upcoming Elite Four since that two of the members had Ghost and Psychic types on which I was able to get the upper hand on. Another good thing that I like about Hydreigon is the design it has with its evolution chain getting an additional head, going down the line of it being a Hydra having an additional head. But since the introduction of Fairy type Pokémon I haven’t used it in quite a long time since Hydreigon is 4x weak against them.

9: Toxapex: I think that Toxapex is one of the most useful Poison type Pokémon that has been so far in the franchise. The ability to land critical hits when the opponent is poisoned. Plus, its move set is rather decent as well including its own protect move, Baneful Banker, in which also poisons the attacking Pokémon.

8: Krookodile: One of my favourite Pokémon from the Unova regions and beyond for the fact that it is rather useful being another dual type, this time being Ground/Dark giving it advantage over many different types, but also giving it quite a few weaknesses to boot. However, the move sets that it can learn is also useful with the ability to learn Dragon, Rock and Fighting moves, which can help with the weaknesses. Plus, I think that the final evolution looks awesome and menacing.

7: Turtonator: When I saw the designs first for this Pokémon, I thought that it just looked to be rather stupid and I wasn’t interested in getting one. But a few months ago, I was replaying through Pokémon Moon and I decided to trade over a Turtonator to see what it was like though levelling up. Then I realised how awesome of a Pokémon it is. It didn’t take me long to get used to its move list and I was really shocked with its stats since I started off with a Litten and was training them up together and I found Turtonator to be stronger even when Litten was Incineroar. Plus, the fact that it is a Pokémon that has a high special attack it makes moves like Flamethrower, Dragon Pulse and Draco Meteor even stronger.

6: Glalie: After the fifth or sixth time that I restarted playing Alpha Sapphire I decided to go and get a new Ice type Pokémon since that I usually went with Walrein since I did use it as a HM Pokémon. So, when I decided to get Snorunt I found out that it had a lot of rather decent moves, with one of them being Freeze-Dry, a move introduced in Gen VI, where it can be super effective against Water type Pokémon making it rather useful since that Hoenn has a lot of water, plus it makes it useful for the Elite 4 when fighting Drake since his Kingdra is one more trickiest on his team to beat since that Kingdra resists the Ice type weakness. Another useful thing about Glalie is that its Mega Evolution changes its ability to Refrigerate in which Normal type move deal Ice damage so this means that it has move of a S.T.A.B set when you give Glalie a Normal type move.

5: Talonflame: When I started playing Pokémon Y, I caught a Fletchling not fully knowing if it is going to be any good but once I got it through the levels and got Talonflame I found it to me useful with a good dual typing, this time being Fire/Flying, making it useful for dealing with Steel and Ice types. In my current Moon playthrough I have been using a Talonflame and it has been useful for me dealing with Mallow’s trail as well as dealing with Guzma’s pesky Bug types since that my team is rather lacking in moves to use against him.

4: Electivire: When I played through Diamond and Pearl I never had the chance to get a Electivire since at that point I didn’t have a second DS to trade with myself or any friends at the time playing it. But a few generations later I managed to get my hands on a Electivire and I really enjoyed using it. It has a quite a good move pool with being good for physical and special attacks but the main reason I like using it is because of its ability and even more so for Double Battles, that being Motor Drive, being able to increase the speed stat. I also think that when they added the new evolutions from previous generations this was the one that had the coolest looking designs, that and along with Magmortar.

3: Mudkip/ Marshtomp/ Swampert: One of my favourite evolution chains in the entirety of Pokémon has been Mudkip’s line since that for its generation it has a lot of advantages. The first is that you have an advantage over the Gym Leaders and depending on which version that you play you have an advantage over the rival faction. Swampert is also a useful Pokémon to have since that it does have a rather good move pool as well having a good physical stat can make it useful making moves like Waterfall and Earthquake powerful.

2: Absol: Super Luck + High Critical Moves + Scope Lens = a really broken Pokémon. When I was trying to come up with an idea for a duo for when me and my friend did the Battle Maison I decided to try and use something that could be rather useful and when I saw that it could learn Psycho Cut, Night Slash, Slash and Shadow Claw, this gives me quite an advantage over several types and each time always dealing critical damage. And for what I chose as a my first choice for the Battle Maison is…

1: Greninja: I used this as my second pick and the main reason was that I got it during a Wonder Trade and discovered that it had its hidden ability of Protean in which it can change its type depending on the type of move that it is going to use. This is really useful since that it does take out the weaknesses for Water and Dark types, but it a double-edged sword since that it does give it the weaknesses of that type which in the Battle Maison made it seem that I was playing a high risk on every round it was in. But when I started using it in the Battle Tree I found to be at a disadvantage but with a lot of changes I did find it to be back to its usefulness.

Pokémon Sun Review

Currently I have put nearly 80 or so hours into Pokemon Sun and I have to say that this has been one of the best games after seeming rather hesitant about it for the last few months.

Story: So with this story it is one of the most complex and intriguing story that they have ever done for a Pokemon game. The main story revolves around three different story elements. The first is the Island Challenge that replaces the Gym system, which I will get later on in the review. The second is with a character that you get introduced called Lillie and her Pokemon, Cosmog, to find out where it came from and trying to find its way home. The third revolves around Team Skull and the Aether Foundation which gets really weird and strange.sun-moon-2

With the island challenge you travel around the four islands of Alola and partake in different challenges that revolve around facing Trail Captains, Totem Pokemon and then the Island Kahuna which some can be rather challenging. I know I have a hard time fighting Lurantis in the Lush Jungle. In the end of the challenge you then unlock access to Mt Lanakila and then challenge the newly formed Elite Four and Champion.

The story line with Lillie and Cosmog does get rather interesting since that it also works its way into the story line with the Aether Foundation. But in the mean time Lillie and Cosmog head to the different ruins around the different islands since that apparently Cosmog is linked to the different ruins. Later in the game we then find out that Cosmog is also linked to the Ultra Beasts that has the interests of the Aether Foundation since they want to preserve the Ultra Beasts against Team Skull. But then it turns out there is more to Cosmog than what even Lillie knows and that is Cosmog is a legendary Pokemon that can evolve into, depending on the version, the cover legendary. Lillie then comes to the realisation that she can no longer look after Cosmog now and you get the chance to capture it to help you with the way to get into the Alternate World to fight the Ultra Beast.

The story line with Team Skull and the Aether Foundation is the weirdest one since that in the end, and a bit of spoilers, the leaders of both factions join together for some strange. With Skull they are around sort of the same thinking of Team Rocket with mainly wanting to steal Pokemon. But with the Aether Foundation they start off rather innocent wanting to help preserve and protect Pokemon from Team Skull but then when it comes to the Ultra Beasts they start to show more of a strange intentions to get them that involve Lillie and Cosmog where it at least seemed that Lusamine the president of Aether Foundation wanted to use all of Cosmog energy to access the Alternate World. When in the Alternate World we see that there are a lot Ultra Beasts and that Lusamine merges with one of them but then after your battle with her gets separated with the help of the cover monster. Team Skull in this game seem to be rather lacklustre but the fights are more interesting especially in the abandoned town that Team Skull takes over.

Island Challenge: The island challenge is one of the best features that they have added to the game and is a breath of fresh air from the Gym system that they had in all the previous games. The concept of the island challenge is rather simple and that is that you go around the island and do roughly three different types of challenge. The first is the Totem Pokemon; they are Pokemon that you fight in the game that have special abilities that can boost stats such as attack and speed. The second asun-moon-3re the Trail Captains; these are trainers that some can fight to progress further on or later in the game, I think since that I have faced one of the Trail Captains after I beat the game. The third are the Island Kahunas which are basically the strongest trainers on the island who, theoretically, should be some of the strongest trainers that you will fight on the islands. But beating the final Kahuna isn’t the end of the story by beating them you unlock a new area called Mt Lanakila where you can take on the Elite Four of the game and become the first Island Champion. The cool thing about the Elite Four is that the majority of the Elite Four is made up of the Island Kahuna’s and some characters added in. Plus an additional awesome thing is that when you beat the Elite Four the first time you can retake the challenge and then face off against different challengers like Hau and other characters that you encounter around the different islands. It is a rather big step up from refighting the Elite Four and Champion from the previous games since that it does mean that the last fight will always be different.

Pokémon: I originally thought when I saw the Pokemon designs for this generation were rather lacklustre and looked rather bland and rather uninterested. But once I started catching them and training them that they were rather good.sun-and-moon-4 A lot of the Pokemon have a lot of good new abilities and from previous generations they seem to be totally different. I have had a lot of fun coming up with different ideas of combinations for when I was doing the Elite Four since that there were some Pokemon that could only evolve in certain areas that are near the end of the game. But other than that I actually changed my mind about all of the new Pokemon and they are really good. I also really do like the Alola forms of the first generation Pokémon since that they all have a different abilities and type match up since that the region had different effects on Pokémon.

Problems: With this game there are a lot of problems I do have with this game. The first is to do with the fishing mechanic and that is that you can only fish in certain spots. Plus the fact that there are two different sorts of fishing spots, the regular fishing spots where you have a higher chance of mainly getting Magikarp and then you have bubbling spots where there is a higher chance of catching other Pokemon other than Magikarp. I do hope that this could get fixed with the encounter rates since that there is also a chance getting items as well. The second problem that I have with it is the SOS system, even though that it does give a chance of getting rare Pokemon, the main problem that when you take out one Pokemon the SOS Pokemon can call out to bring another one in and it is a rather 50/50 chance of getting a third Pokemon called in and so on. The third problem that I have with this game is more of a minor problem is that when you catch a new Pokemon, the registration data shows you the evolution of Pokemon by showing blank spaces next to them. I know that I really wanted to be surprised if a Pokemon had an evolution by getting it to a certain level or stone or area to see if it would evolve but for some reason they decided to show what could come for the Pokémon. The final problem that I have with the game is that there are too many Pokémon from other generations in the game and it does rather bug me that there are so many, I’m fine with the Alola forms since they have a reason why they are like this but having Pokémon such like Caterpie or Magikarp in the game seems to me that they just wanted to fill out the Pokedex more. It is disappointing that there has only been one game that had only one generation (pre Elite Four) where you can’t get Pokémon from other regions. Hopefully in future instalments they will have a game that will just have just one generation.

Overall Score 8.5/10

Top Five Pokémon Battle: Games

I am a huge fan of the Pokemon videogames and to continue of the theme for this month I am going to be covering my favourite battles that partake over all the games. However it is only going to focus on the handheld series since that I have forgotten a lot of the battles that happen in Pokemon Coliseum and XD Gale of Darkness for the fact I no longer have my Wii.

5: XY: Lysander/ AZ: For a while I always thought that X/Y did have a rather boring but there was something’s that I did like and it came near to the end of the game and that was Lysander revealing his true intentions and that was to basically destroy the world. Even though that it did feel like a rather rushed ending for the game it was something that I did like. In this we saw that Lysander revealing what he was going to do and then you have the first battle with him and it just feels like the first battle that you usually have earlier in games when you usually face off against the enemy leader in earlier parts of the games. However my favourite part of the these battle was when you fight him after either catching or killing the legendary when he comes out and has his mega stone and a more interesting battle happens here. Since that there is a second person for this slot I did like the fact that you could also face off against Lysander’s prisoner AZ, who was the king once upon a time, and you get to fight him after beating the Elite Four and Champion. This was more for seeing the AZ finally getting repentance for what he had done and his Pokemon, Floette came back to him and it was a nice ending for the series.

4: ORAS: Delta Episode: Now for this I am rather cheating for this and this is more about the lore and some battles that happen in the section of the game. In the aftermath of the main story for ORAS you are put into a story that does have a rather intriguing theory that these new series of games are set in an alternate dimension. The idea is that they live in a universe where mega evolution exists and that there were going to create a wormhole that would take the meteorite that is coming towards the earth and send it to somewhere else where the antagonist for the story said that what if it went to a universe where mega evolution didn’t exists. It is a really cool theory that they made especially for the old school players for the games.

3:BW: N/Ghetsis: Black and White was one of the game that had one of the best stories that are in the game. When you arrive in the first town in Black and White you see Team Plasma preaching about Pokemon and that they should be freed. From that point you are then introduced to a mysterious trainer known as N. From there you are there you encounter N a lot of times but it doesn’t get interesting until you get through the Elite Four where you head to the Champions Chamber and find that N has beaten him and erects his castle from the ground. From there you go around the castle looking for N and finally encounter him where he gives you the opportunity to capture either Reshiram/Zekrom and then you battle him but then once you face him you are then thrown straight into the fight with Ghetsis but in the end of that fight N realises that what has been happening is wrong and he then ends his ties with Team Plasma. It is a really good ending for the game and the sequel is a rather good story as well.

2:GSC/HGSS: Red: When I played Pokemon Gold for the first time I never even got the chance to face off against Red at the top of Mt Silver, for the fact that I pretty much was terrible at the game and only got to I think facing off against either Brock or Blue but that was a really long time ago. Role onto when the remakes came along and I finally had the chance to face off against Red in Soul Silver and this was one of the toughest fights I have ever had in the game. This fight makes you grind away to become the strongest you can be since the fact that Red’s Pokemon are all levelled between 70-80 so that means that you would need to spend a long time grinding especially if your team is about mid 50s or 60s if you want a chance of survival. But in the end it is totally worth being a top contender just for the fact that it is pretty much the last real fight in the game and the biggest challenge faced.

1:RBY/FRLG: Rival: Back in the day of the first Pokemon games you only had two main enemies in the game Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, and Blue (or Nutsack or whatever you called him). But the main challenge was always Blue. He is the first and if you didn’t go into the Viridian Forest could be the second trainer that you can fight. A lot of the time he does have a really good range of Pokemon at his use and there are pretty good as well and that is where the challenge is, to make yourself a better trainer than him and this all comes to a end when you beat Lance in the Elite Four and face off against the Champion: Blue. This is pretty much the ultimate test that was in the original game (besides MewTwo or MissingNo) since that if you lose this match, unless saving before the fight, would have to go back to the beginning of the Elite Four and do the challenge all over again. But once you beat him you then do have the satisfaction of being the number one trainer in the Kanto Region.

Pokémon Sun and Moon Expectations

So were nearing that time when the newest Pokémon game is coming out in November and I am really looking forward to playing it even though I do have a few worries about it as well.

Pokemon: So with this being a new region for Pokemon you know what that means we’re are going to have a tonne of new Pokemon to catch. To me there are a lot of rather interesting looking Pokemon and I look forward to try and catch them all (minus version exclusives since I am currently getting Sun), yet I do have one problem that I did have with Pokemon XY and that was the fact that there were more Pokemon from other generations. I think that this was to fill out the Pokedex since that there was about 60 or so new Pokemon added and if that is the same reason why I will take that into consideration

Alolan Form: So the newest thing for this game is the introduction of Alolan Form Pokemon with the theory around this was that Pokemon that lived he evolved in a different way compared to in other regions like Kanto and Johto. This means that we do get some really cool looking Pokemon with new types and with that new ways to beat them. So far my favourite Alolan forms that have been revealed have been for Sandshrew/Sandslash and Marowak they both do look really cool with the designs that they to go along with where they are from but then we do have some rather ridiculous looks forms such as Raichu and Exeggutor since they both do look rather silly and type coverage makes rather little sense especially with Exeggutor being Grass/Dragon type. Hopefully with the changes the Alolan forms have a lot better chance in-game then they do on paper.

New Format: So with this game there is something rather different to what previous games have done and that is it doesn’t appear to be an actual gym system in the game instead we have the Island Challenges that the player takes. Now I don’t have an actual clue on what the outcome of doing the Island Challenges does but it is something that I am looking forward to do since that it is nice to finally have a change. Another cool thing with this challenge it seem that in the challenge is that you get to fight actual Pokemon in battles which I think is really cool.

New Features: With this new game we also get a lot of new features as well including the ability to ride Pokemon in what appears to be a much larger area now when they introduced it in XY. With this it appears that you can use Pokemon to get through places in the game by using abilities that the Pokemon have such as with Sharpedo where it can smash through large boulders that are in the sea to reach new areas. Another new feature in the game is something that looks like they are bringing back in what they used in Black2 White2 and that was an area where you can interact with different trainers and buying items. Finally another interesting thing that they brought in was something for Pokemon to do when they are inside the storage system and that is the Poke Pelego where Pokemon are put into doing tasks such as finding new Pokemon that could join your team, gathering evolution stones (which is a really big help), training and gathering berries. This does seem like they are trying to make Pokemon into something more advanced and using previous elements from previous games since this weirdly does seem like the Dream World function in Black and White but since that was done more online on computer this seems to be a large step forward into making it a better version.

Ultra Beasts: There is something that I do rather think that looks rather stupid since that it seems something more out of a sci-fi flick. With the Ultra Beasts it looks like that in this game the Aether Foundation are in fact Bio-Pokemon and I think it just seems rather weird going off especially since that with the Island Challenges which seems to be more along the lines of a tribal journey. Hopefully this is something that is going to be explained more logically along the next month or to explain what they really are.

August Update

So it has been a while since that I have done a update blog and I need to have some filler to put in for the lack of material that I have put out. The main reasons that I haven’t put up any new posts is that I have had a lot of trouble with my laptop for the past few weeks where I have had to get it fixed, luckily enough I have it back and its working. Another reason why I haven’t posted anything is because I have been dealing with quite a few personal problems and that seems to be going nowhere much and I might as well just repress anything that I have.

Onto the posts that I am going to be doing for the next month going to be another themed few weeks since that this is the twentieth anniversary of Pokemon I have a few posts that I am going to cover to span a month. This then should lead me onto late September where this is going to lead me for few posts (hopefully DKIII will be done by that time) where I am going to cover two DC topics hopefully about the series that I have been reading about. After this it should lead me into the October where my favourite holiday is: Halloween, where I am going to hopefully by then have the Universal Monster Box Set and I am going to try and review one of them as well as doing a Top 10 list. Another film that I am going to try and review is going to be Ghostbusters since that back around April time when I was doing my Top 5 favourite films of all time list, I sort of had another slight breakdown where I didn’t even write the blog and this is where it is going to be rectified.

I currently do have some posts planned for November where I am going to do two lists of games (which I already have written up) of disappointing games and games that I would like to see be remastered, so that’s going to be fun to do. Another blog that I do plan on doing hopefully for November is going to be a movie review for Yu-Gi-Oh! The Darkside of Dimensions film, but the main problem with this is that (a it is already out in Japan so I’m late on that and (b I have no idea if and when the film is going to be released in the UK. Hopefully in the next few weeks and months that is to come I will find out the information that I am looking for to see when I should have that out by.

Finally I would like to say a thank you (again) to one of my friends Michael Alexander who asked for somebody to come on his radio show on Nova Radio North East to fill in for his usual co-host who was busy that day. I had a great time on there where we ended up talking about this site, comic con’s, films as well as playing some music. But make sure that you check them out this week when they he and his co-host are back on Wednesday 6pm-8pm on Nova where I believe they are going to be talking about a play that is currently at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle this week called No Man’s Land starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart so that’s something to look forward to for theatre-goers to look forward to. I do hope that I get the chance to go back on again since that it was something really fun and different that I have done.

So hopefully now I am going to be back on the wagon with these blog posts and hopefully without any problems.

My Top E3 2016 List

So with E3’s reveals and new features announced for this year I am looking forward to quite a few number of games and this is my list of games I am looking forward to.

Resident Evil 7: So just to let people know, I am not a big fan of the Resident Evil gamResident Evil VIIes and have not yet played one. On the other hand I have seen the films and that is all I pretty much know about the franchise. But with this it does seem more down my ally when it comes to games. I am a fan of horror and mystery when it comes to games and from the trailer that it does look really good and interesting. Other than this I don’t think that I can say much else since that.

batman-telltale-720x404Telltale’s Batman: So Telltale has had a lot of success when it has come to bringing out adaptations of comics over the past few years especially with The Wolf Amongst Us and The Walking Dead games and now they have made a Batman game. I was a big fan of the Batman games, mainly from the Arkham series, and I am looking forward to seeing what they are going to do with it. Since that I don’t have the chance to actually go to E3 to try the demo for the game I am really curious about what the story of the game is about but from a interview segment that Game Spot covered is that it appears that there is a lot to focus on Batman and Bruce Wayne so a lot of you actions do have a consequences. I will be looking forward to this but the only thing that I may not be looking forward to is the fact that it could be separated into five different parts which does bug me as a gamer when they release parts of a game instead of just a whole game. The only game that I don’t think that Telltale released in multi-episodes was Minecraft and Tales from the Borderlands so I’m hoping that they do the same with Batman.

Star Wars: So EA held a rather big reveal showing that they have quite a number of ideas that they could be doing with the future of Star Wars. I got to say though I am not looking forward to the next Battlefront game since they should be focus on fixing the first gameStar Wars before shipping out a second. I do hope that they make more games that are just you basic online shooter game, god knows we have too many of them going around. I do hope that they are going to be bringing out new games that could focus around the new film trilogy since there seems to be a lot of things that they could do with the film for instance creating a game that fills in the gap between Return and Awakens since there is a large gap there. I would also like to see a new Force Unleashed game as well since that was one of the games that actually got me back into the Star Wars universe. But there is one game that I do want to see at least make a jump to consol, that being I want to see a Knights of the Old Republic game. Think about having the chance to play as your own character and forging your own legend into becoming a Jedi. But since nothing like that could be possible a man can only dream.

SkyrimThe Elder Scroll V: Skyrim Remastered: Back in 2011 Bethesda released one of my most favourite PS3 game of all time and when I heard the rumours last week that this was going to be revealed at E3, I wasn’t that bothered about its release since that I still have the regular version and didn’t seem that I was even interested in it. But I then watched the trailer from the reveal and I think I changed my mind about it. It has been re-mastered with new textures and colours that make it stand out by a lot. In addition to this they are also going to be releasing it with mod support for console so I am looking for it more since I didn’t have the chance to use the mod’s, I am looking forward to use them. Since there are quite a few mod I really do want to use such as the mod that allows you to have element effects to weapons so I can have an actual flaming sword.

Fallout4Fallout 4: Last year at E3 Fallout 4 was announced and I pretty much my entire time on Christmas Day playing it and I have enjoyed playing it so much. I have enjoyed all the missions that you can do, the characters in the game and all of the DLC’s that have came out. So at this year’s E3 they revealed the next three DLC’s that are coming out with one that is coming out possibly next year that being Contraptions where you can build Mouse Trap in real life. Then you have a DLC that I have been looking forwards to since that I originally thought that I would have had to use for mod’s and that being been able to create your own vault. This is something that I have wanted to do since starting the game and had the chance to go through the different vaults in the game. So from what it looks like there could be the chance to adjust Vault 111 and customise it in your own way which is something that I am looking forward to do. Then the third of the new DLC being Nuka-Cola Land. This looks like that it could be rather interesting since that it seems to be a working amusement park and there are a lot of people going there so that means that there could be a lot of missions to do there. I am really glad that Bethesda have up the effort into making more content for this game and I hope that there is more to come later this year and I am looking forward to using mod’s when it comes to console.

SunMoonPokemon Sun & Moon: I am a huge Pokemon fan and it is pretty much the only game series that I have played through every generation from Game Boy to Advanced to 3DS and have enjoyed playing them all. Since that this game already got announced a few months ago I was just expecting them to show more of the game with possibly showing off the gym leaders or more Pokemon, in which they did end up revealing new Pokemon. But they did show off some new features of the game. One is the new battle interface that looks rather practical. Instead of having just a large red section in the middle to bring up the fight menu it is now located on the right had side whilst the item, Pokemon and run options appear to be on the left hand side which does make it seem a lot more practical. Another really useful feature that they have added is a stat tool. So now when you are in a battle you can now see how many stat changes have happened to your Pokemon or the Pokemon that you are battling. This does make it really useful since you used to count the times that a Pokemon may have used a move like Double Team to see if it would be wise to use a particular move. Another really cool feature that they have added is a new mode called Battle Royal where you and three other people can face off against each other in a Pokemon battle. This is something that I have always wanted to see in Pokemon, when I had more friends who played the game and is something that I wonder will have something to do in game or is just multiplayer. But there is one thing that I did find rather disappointing about the game and that is the appearance of Pokemon from other generations. In all honesty I am not a big fan of this and I would have preferred this if it had a new roster of Pokemon that were available for this game such as with Black and White when the only time that you would have seen new Pokemon was when you beat the game. It did bug me when I played Pokemon Y since there appeared more of other region Pokemon then the ones that were that generation. Other than that I already have it pre-ordered and I am still looking forward to play it.

DBX2Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Ever since last year I got back into watching Dragon Ball Z thanks to the guys at Team Four Star with their Dragon Ball Z Abridged series, but more with one of their gaming series, Dragon Ball Xenoverse. I never got the chance to play the first game and I sort of do refuse to do since that there have been a lot of patches for the game and knowing my chances when it comes to trying to play it would be a waste of time to try and install the game. I am looking forward for this game since that it appears to feature a new story that looks to be more interesting since that in the trailer when they revealed that they could be ways to change the outcome from the past. So we could possibly see Vegeta kill Freeza or something along the lines of that. I am going to be also looking forward for this because they could then end up adding in some of the new story lines from Dragon Ball Super which I am really interested in since there are a lot of good story lines that they can do with it. Plus there is something that I am looking forward to something new that they are doing and that it being able to face movie villains, which I find rather weird since Broly was the only movie villain to appear in the first game. Nevertheless I am looking forward to play this game when it comes out

SpiderManSpider-Man: When The Amazing Spider-Man game came out I played it, when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game came out I played it and with this game got announced I was really excited for it. From the trailer that we got for it looks like that Insomniac knows what they are doing with this game. From what we got from the trailer I think that I can guess that the villain of the game is going to be Mr Negative since that the goons that Spidey takes down see to be of oriental design. There is more likely to see more of his rouges gallery in the game, possibly some small villains but maybe a few big villains, maybe Vulture. The only one problem that I do have with it is Spider-Man’s costume and that I think that the spider symbol should have been white. Most likely we will get new costume skins for the game and I am going to be switching to the next skin that is available.

Death StrandingDeath Stranding: As many people know PT was meant to be the next Silent Hill game, but then Kojima and Konami had a falling out since Metal Gear Solid V and it ended up being scrapped and Kojima went and started his new company and made a partnership with PlayStation. Then we get the trailer for Death Stranding which was such an amazing trailer and possibly one of the best over the past three days. In the trailer all we pretty much see it death, then it pans across to a naked man who turns out to be Norman Reedus, who was part of PT, who ends up finding a baby and then it just disappears when it comes and he stands up and notices five shapes in the sky and they disappear and the title gets revealed. Other than the trailer I don’t know that much else about the game and I am looking to hear more about the game in the next few months to see if it could be a possibility for me to get the game.

TheFracturedButWholeSouth Park: The Fractured But Whole: At last year’s E3 at the very end of the Ubisoft conference they revealed the next South Park game and ever since then I have been waiting patiently for any news from it since then, but there was never anything. Then this year we got a lot of new news and game play. You play a mute character (I am not sure if it is the same character from Stick of Truth) and you can create your own superhero character which all have different powers and abilities so you can have different save files playing different characters. From the story that you see being developed in the trailer is that Cartman manages to piss off Kenny with his idea of creating a film universe of the South Park Superhero Universe and they manage splitting up into two different groups and we then see Butters forming his own army and that’s pretty much it. We then also get a look at the battle system for the game and it is totally different from SoT since that you can now move around the battlefield and in a way creates combos that could help take down people in fights plus being able to push people into objects as well is really useful and looks fun. Another cool battle feature is being able to use cover. The demonstration with Tweak and his power that he used was pretty awesome and I can’t wait to see what other powers that will be in the game. In addition to all this pretty amazing news that we got, they also going to be bringing in Towlie as a pre-order bonus, which most likely will also be a bonus if you just pick up a copy, as well as a copy of Stick of Truth as well. I am really looking forward to playing this game, but I am more looking forward to be watching a walkthrough since that if this game is anything like what SoT there is going to be a bit of censoring that they won’t allow in for the European release.
