Videogames I’m Looking Forward to Play 2023 and Beyond

It’s strange that we are now in June and not seeing an E3 conference since that this year they decided to cancel it, but I think that it was for the good since that it looks like that companies are putting out their own presentations to showcase up and coming games. But it looks like that there are some companies that have done this, and we have seen some games pushed back to negative criticism, I’m looking at you Rocksteady with Suicide Squad, but there are some games and added content that I am looking forward to playing this year and beyond.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape: Recently, I got back into playing Destiny 2 for a few reasons, from what I heard from my friend the direction that it was heading sounded interesting, then there was the passing of Lance Reddick that got this old Titan player back in the throw of things. Then at the PlayStation Showcase they revealed a rather interesting trailer in which we see Ikora talking with a mysterious person, that turns out to be Cayde-6, who died back in Forsaken, and it turns out that he may be in some sort of different dimension that may have something to do with the Traveller or maybe the Darkness. However, it looks like that we will have to wait a bit longer as it was a teaser for what is to come as there is going to be more information revealed coming this August.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: I have had some mixed feeling about the new Pokémon games, but I do have to say I have liked playing them since they did try to do a lot of things differently and I did like it. The only thing that I didn’t like about the game was that it did seem that there was something that were missing since it didn’t seem complete and there were some questions still to be answered. But it looks like that we are going to be getting some answers with two DLC packs coming out later this year, the first being The Teal Mask in which were are getting several new Pokémon and the second called The Indigo Disc in which we are heading off map to a sister school. I think that these are going to be fun to play, but at the same time and like many others I thought that it was going to be taking place between the Paldea region and Kalos region since both of them are based on Spain and France respectively. But I ain’t fussed since I did like the DLC that they brought out for Sword and Shield, and I think that these are going to be good as well.

Skull and Bones: Out of most of the games on this list I have been anticipatingly waiting for this game to come out. Assassins Creed Black Flag was one of my favourite games from the series and when they announced that they were taking the ship aspect of that game a turning it into a full game had me from the start. Then there was no news for a long time, until last year when they revealed more information about the game from story aspect as well as gameplay, then January came through and it was announced that it was being delayed until 2024 and then I started to feel a sense of worry from it. But the delays could be important since that it could mean that they could use that time to improve on the game and hopefully not make it buggy mess since that is what has happened with several big games already this year.

Assassins Creed: Mirage: The Assassins Creed series has been quite strange over the past few instalments, and I think that this game is also going to be strange and possibly a breath of fresh air that the series may need. With this instalment you get to play as the character the returning character of Basim before the events of Valhalla and this had me rather confused. Since that in Valhalla, you do get to meet Basim and he is revealed to have been corrupted by the memories of Loki and is trapped by Eivor in Yggdrasil and is released when Layla Hassan by accident and she then gets trapped in his place instead. So, it gets me thinking if we are going to be seeing him as a good guy or are we going to get a case like in Assassins Creed 3 where Basim does have some antagonistic qualities. But I am looking forward to it since that it looks like they are downsizing the game since one of my biggest gripes that I had with the series from Origins is that I thought that there was way too much exploration in a game that was quite closed spaced.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4: I have been a fan of the Dragon Ball series for quite a long time, I’ve watched a lot of the anime as well as dabbled in a few games like Xenoverse and Kakarot, but there was a series that I never played that being the Budokai Tenkaichi series. I think the reason why I never played them was mainly that I didn’t know that there were games for them, and it was at a time where I ended up dropping out of the franchise until the mid-2010’s and when I got back into the series, I was playing the newer games than the older ones. I did end up watching a lot of Budokai Tenkaichi 3 thanks to TeamFourStar who played through the game on their gaming channel, and I thought that it looked like a lot of fun. Then low and behold that back in March we got the first teaser for Budokai Tenkaichi 4 and from that it looks like that it is taking a design pick from Kakarot and I am all for it. Hopefully we’ll get more information in the next coming months and getting to see what other characters we get to play as.

RoboCop: Rouge City: I always get a bit worried when it comes to videogames that come from licensed movies since that a majority of a time, they tend to be either rushed or seem more disconnected. However, this one looks like that we could be getting what we would expect from the movie in the form of a videogame. From what was shown in the first trailer you have to go around looking for evidence to take down criminals in the legal way, to then go and then take them down. I did also like at the end of the trailer where it looks like that you also get to go around ticket cars, that looks like it’s going to be fun. Hopefully when the game does come out, we get more cool action to boot.

Metal Gear Solid 3 (Delta) Snake Eater (Remake): The PlayStation Showcase ended up dropping quite a few more shocks with this one, for me personally, being one of the biggest shocks. I wouldn’t think in a million years that Konami would follow other companies like Capcom down the path of remakes and I think that they have done the right choice by having it be Snake Eater that is going to be the possible start of the remakes for MGS. However, I am still quite apprehensive about the game for a few reasons, the first being that this doesn’t have the same creative team behind it since Hideo Kojima left after the cluster-f that occurred with MGS 5. Then the second being that according to a few different outlets it’s being revealed that the remake is going to be using the original game’s voice lines, so does that mean that they are just going to be taking the lines from the original game and putting it into this or are they going to be using the same dialogue from the game but with new actors(?). It’s going to be a confusing time, but I am going to be keeping a close eye out on this game since Snake Eater was the first MGS game that I played, and I hope they don’t screw it up.

Metal Gear Solid Collection: Speaking of Metal Gear Solid, not only did they announce the remake they also announced that Konami was going to be re-releasing the Metal Gear Solid collection with MGS 1-3 as well as Metal Gear 1&2. I did have the collection for the PlayStation 3, and I think that I skimmed across the first two MGS games and played more of Snake Eater, and I am hoping that when these games do get re-released, I actually play through them. But there is one thing that I am rather curious about and that has to with a particular boss fight with Psycho Mantis… will it still do the reading of the ‘memory card’ and the changing of controller ports or will it have some sort of new mechanic instead. But like with the remake I am going to be keeping an eye out on it.

Silent Hill 2 Remake: Speaking of remakes, I remembered that we are also, at some point, going to be getting a remake of Silent Hill 2 as well as a bunch of other Silent Hill spin off titles and for somebody who has only read about the series, I am looking forward to playing it. The only thing that I ever played that was Silent Hill was the P.T and I did enjoy that and was really disappointed that was all we were getting as this came during Kojima leaving Konami. I did at one point consider buying the HD Remakes, but after discovering what happened to them when they were getting made, I decided to hold up on them as well as I wasn’t using my PS3 much at the time, so I never got to play a proper Silent Hill game. So hopefully with this remake that is coming out I get the chance to enjoy the game.

Silent Hill Ascension: Speaking of Silent Hill, there is one game that is coming out that does have me rather intrigued, and this comes in the form of Silent Hill Ascension. This game is taking the concept from games like The Dark Pictures Anthology, in which you control characters and make their decisions and try to get may of them out alive. So, I think that this is going to be rather interesting since that I think that there is going to be a lot of delving into the psychology of more characters. I hope that the game does have do well since that I think that this could help bring more people into the franchise.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: I am a big fan of Spider-Man, you can go back and read any of my Spider-Man reviews to see that, and I was also a fan of the spin-off title Spider-Man: Miles Morales. So, I was waiting patiently for the day when it was going to be announced that Spider-Man 2 and when I saw that we were going to be getting Kraven the Hunter and Venom for it I was hyped. Then with PlayStation Showcase they not only revealed a new trailer showing Kraven and his motives, but we also got a scope of how big this game is since that it doesn’t just take place New York City, but also appears that we get to go to both Queens and Brooklyn which means that there is going to be a lot of exploration to be done. So not only did we get to see Kraven’s motives for the game, we also did get a bit of gameplay with Spidey now donning the Venom symbiote trying to save The Lizard from Kraven’s forces and it looks amazing (pun intended). But the bigger shocker (pun intended) is that you get to swap between Peter and Miles meaning that you get the best of both Spiders, and he too has some new abilities too boot. Hopefully from what was shown, which was good in my opinion, makes itself through to the game and I pray that this doesn’t go the same way a LOT of games went this year with it being a buggy mess.

So those are the games and added content that I am looking forward to play from this year onwards and hopefully they all do turn out to be good and not pushed back any further and for next week we’re heading back over to DC and more of the Death of Superman.

Top Seven Videogames I Want To Play

Since turning 25 this year I got to thinking about something that has been a part of my life, that being videogames and most importantly games and/or franchises that I haven’t played.

Metal Gear/ Metal Gear Solid (Some games): This one I am slightly cheating on since I have played a handful of Metal Gear Solid games, never to completion but still there have been some games that I have yet to play. Mainly since I never played them till PS2/PS3 era when I played Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriot, so that means that I still had at least several games still yet to play since that the franchise started on the NES which I never played since I believe my first console was the SNES. But a few years ago, Konami re-released Metal Gear – Peace Walker in a Legacy collection where it has all the games in between and hopefully I should be able to get it but knowing my luck when it comes to videogames, I think it will take time to get.

Resident Evil: A lot of the people that know me know that I love watching horror film but they should be surprised to know that I never played any games from the Resident Evil franchise since that I didn’t know where to even start with them. There is the original game that was on the PS1, then the was Resident Evil 4-6 on the PS3 that I now can get on the PS4 and now the latest instalment that came out last year in which I did play the demo for. But the two that do stand out for me would be the original game and Resident Evil 7 since that does attract me more since that they both make you feel isolated and this is something that I do enjoy about horror and was one of the things that I like about Until Dawn. But a good thing is that since Capcom have re-released the original games for the current gen consoles so there is another game that I could get my hands on.

Silent Hill: About a year or so ago, I played PT for the first time which was going to be the launch point for a new Silent Hill game for the PS4. However, things at Konami as we all know now, weren’t really going that well and the game was scrapped and Hideo Kojima leaving to work on new games with the first, Death Stranding, being a possible replacement for the Silent Hill sized hole that was left. But getting on with what had come before, I had never played any game. I had seen the films and reviews from the comic that Linkara had reviewed throughout portions of Halloween but they didn’t seem to hook me on that much. But I then saw some gameplay for it from a Let’s Play and it seemed to be rather interesting to me. But there is a slight problem on where I should start since I am unsure if Konami have or are planning on re-releasing the first game or that I should skip to play 2&3 since that I know that I can get a copy since that they are sold together for the PS3 port in which they had to apparently re-do.

Ratchet and Clank: My best friend introduced me to Ratchet and Clank and a few times when I went over to his house I found him playing Ratchet and Clank on a few occasions but the only time that I had ever played it was on a PS2 Demo disc and that was a long time ago. The only other time that I had much experience with Ratchet and Clank was the movie that came out and it I thought I was rather enjoyable of a film, but I didn’t even play the tie in game that came with that. Then I also have the same problem with this as I did with Silent Hill with not knowing where to start with the series since that there were PS2 games, but I don’t know if they got updated to either PS3 or PS4, or I skip to the PS3 games.

Crash Bandicoot: When I was growing up I played Spyro the Dragon over Crash Bandicoot so I never got to experience it back on the PS1. But when Naughty Dog announced that they were going to be re-releasing Crash for PS4 I was a little bit unsure whether to get pick up a copy and I might try and get it for Christmas to see if it is worth getting.

The Legend of Zelda: Even thought that I have owned a 3DS for a long time I have never picked up a Zelda game since I didn’t know what they were really like, but for the past few months since I picked up the 2DS XL I have been trying to find out A) which game to get and B) where to get them. I was thinking on getting Ocarina of Time since that is one of the most popular games from the franchise. But I also have a second option since that I am planning on buying a Switch in a few weeks and I did like the design for Breath of the Wild so there could be a chance that I could also pick this up around Christmas.

Final Fantasy Series: Like a lot from this list me not playing games is down to not knowing about games at the time or due to not knowing about the franchises till later in life. Final Fantasy is one of the franchises that I have slowly gotten into over the years and the most that I do know about the world is thanks to Kingdom Hearts and from what I have seen for Final Fantasy VII Machinabridge from TeamFourStar. I think that one of the games that I do want to play is VII since that it is going to be rereleased possibly next year but the version that I am going to get my hands on will be the original since it is on the PlayStation Store as a digital down load. But as for the rest of the franchise I am a little bit uncertain about getting, mainly down to not knowing the franchise enough. But XV could be another game that I could pick up since that it is the most recent game and if I do plan on picking up the remastered version on VII it would get me used to it since that it appears that it uses the same mechanics as XV, plus the weird Assassins Creed event that is currently happening seem to be rather interesting.
