Go-Go Power Rangers #1 Review

A few months ago, Boom Studios revealed that they were going to be releasing a second on-going series but this one focusing on the early days of the Rangers and it turns out that it is set pretty much after the events of the first fight with Goldar.

The issue opens, as I said in the introduction, with the Rangers fighting against Goldar just as they formed to Megazord for the first time. A lot of the dialogue in the first page is mainly caption boxes with the Rangers communicating between each other talking about how cool the Megazord is. After the battle, the Rangers are seen on top of the Megazord admiring the view and Trini asks Jason if he is okay since that he just seems to be staring off in the distance and he replies saying that though they won the battle the war is just starting and that things will never be the same again.

We then cut to three months before the event called ‘Arrival Day’ we see Jason training in the Juice Bar when we see Ernie asking why he is there. He replies saying that he was getting in a morning workout and Ernie replies saying that it seems that he is training for something but doesn’t know why he would be. Jason tells a tale when he was at camp a kid named Brandon had made a bow and arrow and when he was going to test it out, a bully took it off him and snapped it in two. Ernie says that it wasn’t his fault but then it is revealed that he was the one that did it, and that he is making sure that when there are bullies around that he would be there to stand up to them.

At the high-school, Jason and Zack meet up where the just generally talk and we see what Zack is also good at and that is being able to make friends with pretty much anybody, from people in band, to teachers to some of the hottest girls. Outside, Trini and Billy are walking inside where Billy where he asks her about if telling a crush about their feelings if the chance of dating would increase and she replies saying that the odds of rejection and utter humiliation. But as Billy goes to talk more with her he gets hit by a water balloon thrown by Bulk along with Skull. Inside Jason and Zack see the aftermath of the water balloon and we are introduced to a new character, Matthew Cook, who tells Billy that he would get the Football team to tape Bulk up to a goalpost, but Billy says that isn’t necessary so Matthew decides to give him his hat.

This whole section seemed to be rather interesting since it really did give more character to the Rangers since that looking back at the television series the Rangers didn’t seem to have much of a diverse character design. I really like the idea that Jason used to be a bully, but then he realised that what he was doing was wrong and I would like to see this be more developed. Zach seemed to be nearly the same as his counterpart in the show. But the one character that seems to be improved more is with Billy since that they have been involving the possible relationship between him and Trini, but it is sad to know that it wouldn’t work out since the events of Power Ranger Pink, where Trini ends up with Zach, which seemed that it came from the current storyline from the Mighty Morphin comics and it is something that I like.

On the moon, we see Rita conversing with Goldar, Squatt, Baboo and Finster, who are ready to serve her and tell her that her putties are awaiting her commands. She says that this time they won’t be attacking blindly and then bring up the two prisoners that they have, who broke he out of the dumpster, two NASDA astronauts with one of them asking them to be freed. But Rita says that he has no need to worry since that she has no plans on harming them but she does require information on Earth from them.

At the Juice Bar Jason, Zack, Billy and Trini are meeting up and wondering where Kimberly is at and Trini knows where she is and Jason seems annoyed that she isn’t here and they start conversing about the battle that they had yesterday. Billy seems slightly on edge that somebody may have noticed them but Zack brings up that there a lot of people that are still shell shocked about the events that had happened and Billy then brings up that people were jumping at loud noises. Zack then brings up that they should at least morph and help with the clean-up, but Jason disagrees saying that it would be a bad idea since that there will be a lot of soldiers and reporters there trying to find out who they are and since that he is the leader of the team, he thinks that this is the best decision for the team, but Zack speaks up wanting to know if they can trust Zordon and Trini also brings up points with her and Billy’s mothers becoming over protected and wanting to know where they are and what they are doing. Jason tries to think of excuses to help them cover their Ranger duties but is then interrupted when Alpha calls saying that they are needed in the Command Center and then tells Trini to contact Kimberly.

Meanwhile at make out spot, Kimberly and Matthew are they start talking and about some of the most recent events, with Matthew bringing up the events of when Goldar attacked and with the stuff that has been happening, the first thing that is on his mind is ‘Where’s Kimmy’ and it shows that he does care a lot about her. He asks her if they still want to be together and she says that she does but just as they start to make out Trini blocks them telling her to get to the Command Center. She apologies to Matt saying Trini was texting her and he seems to be rather cool with it believing that it is just girl’s stuff and he asks her if she is going to help him study for the Trig test and is about to take her home, when she then says that they don’t need to leave right now. I think that the best thing about this scene is that it showed that Kim being in a relationship with somebody else that Tommy Oliver and I think that this could create a rather good story down the line, depending on what they already have penned down since that it doesn’t look like at this time that we could be seeing Matthew in the Might Morphin series.

At the Command Center, Zordon informs to the Rangers that he believes that Rita is going to begin another attack and brings up that the Astronauts that accidentally freed her, still haven’t made it back to Earth and are imprisoned in her castle. Jason brings up the fact that if they are imprisoned there, then they need to go and rescue them, but Zordon says that this is a bad idea since that Rita is far too powerful and that the castle is well guarded. Jason then brings up a good point saying that it was Zordon that gave them the power to fight against Rita’s forces and that they want to take the fight to her. With the possible news of them travelling to the Moon it gives them some mixed feelings with Zack acting like a giddy child, which i like to think what his reaction was like when they were in the Megazord scenes in the beginning describing them as ‘Space Ninjas’. Jason have a spontaneous plan in his head and says that if they get teleported in quick and they get out fast they know they can do it. Leading up to the team heading to the moon, Trini talks to her mother on the phone with her being annoyed about breaking curfew and Kim texting, Matt probably, that she wasn’t going to make it over to his. Billy still doesn’t want to head to the Moon but Zack reassures him that he is going to do great when they get there and we see the team morph into their Ranger costumes in a good page spread, but I do think that it could have been laid out better with the Rangers in their suits since that you have three on one side, Jason in roughly the middle and Kim in the end by herself.

On the moon, the Rangers discover Rita’s Palace, Kim stares off at the Earth and wishes that she could share it with Matt, but Jason says that they need to protect their friends by not telling them what they do, but just as he finishes saying that Kim warns him and they are surrounded by Putties and I don’t mean ten or fifteen, I mean a legion of Putties. Jason manages to clear a way to get them inside of the Place and tells the team his plan, for them to go and rescue the Astronauts whilst he goes and secures them an exit route, beating up the Putties and being on the lookout for Rita. Kim seems worried about him being on his own, but Zack reassures her that he would be fine.

The Rangers manages to find the Astronauts, but there is a challenge before them in the form of Goldar, but Zack and Billy manage to distract him long enough for Kim and Trini to save the Astronauts and make a hasty exit. As they get away from Goldar they realise that the corridor that they were travelling down had disappeared, but Trini also brings up that Jason is still no longer around. Over to where Jason is and we see him confronting Rita but we see that she outmatches him with ease and we see her throwing him through a wall right in the path where the other Rangers are. The issue ends with Rita, with her followers, knowing all the Rangers real names and gives them a proper introduction but also a warning that they have made a terrible mistake.

This end is rather good since that it does show Rita to be a lot more powerful than what she was in the show, possibly on par to the new version that we got in the latest film. The artwork throughout is good and constant with each of the designs for Rita’s main circle well designed as well since that they see to be more menacing, even Squatt and Baboo who were comedic villains from the show.

One final thing that I do like about this is that with each of the Rangers got their own biography page, which isn’t what you see much nowadays in comics. They give you the basic description of the characters, but it seems to be done in the same way a year book would be done, with having likes, dislikes and a quote, but I am not 100% sure since I am not American or from a country that uses yearbooks, so if anybody could help me out on that note it would be rather enlightening.

Overall, I did rather enjoy this first issue, but I did find that the opening scene to be rather weird with it then time skipping three months prior, but with the way that the panels lead into each other it doesn’t seem that there would have been a time skip. But nonetheless it is a good read and I wonder what events that the creative team have for the rest of this story.

Justice League/ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 Review

Previously in the Justice League/Power Rangers comic. Lord Zedd attacks the Command Centre and Zack manages to hold him off by teleporting them through a damaged teleporter. This leads Zack to wind up on the DC Universe where Zack is confronted by Batman, which Zack thinks is Lord Zedd’s monster. This then leads the Rangers to come in for back up to help Zack but Batman has the Justice League to call on. This then calms down when the two sides start to talk things out. We then find out what happened to Zedd and that he then aligns himself with Brainiac when he gives him a proposition to take cities in the Power Ranger universe and they also manage to get the Zords away from the Rangers to do this and it also leaves the Rangers stranded in the DC Universe. The Rangers and the League then head to Switzerland to get help from CERN to open a wormhole to take them back to their dimension.

The issue opens with Billy and Cyborg going over the calculations to see if their plan can work and Zack asking Kim for an update. She says that she doesn’t understand it much but that they are making progress. Zack seems to be rather worried about what Zedd and Brainiac could be doing on Earth and that before they headed here he got into a fight with his parents and he hopes that he wants to fix that. Billy and Cyborg finally finish their equations and say that they can create a hole but it would be random where it would take them. One of the scientists then say that if they have a link to their world they can fix where they will go and Tommy has the answer, that being he still has his Dragon Dagger. Billy then brings up that they can’t activate the rift underground since that it could have a fatal collapse if an accident was to happen. Wonder Woman suggest that they should move the Hadron Collider elsewhere and the scientist says that they can’t just move it and that it is seventeen miles long. Wonder Woman says that they will be careful and that he and Superman will lift it with Green Lantern can hold it in place. Green Lantern manages to hold the Collider and Wonder Woman and Superman start pushing it into SPACE.

In the Javelin, Tommy hands the Dragon Dagger to Green Lantern who places it in the middle of the Collider to act as an anchor and they all head into the portal, hoping that they can survive the trip. They manage to arrive back in the Power Ranger’s universe and we see that Brainiac has already started the process of converting Angel Grove into a bottled city. The League tells the Rangers that they can’t do anything now and just wait, but Zack heads off to the dome to see if there is anything that he can do and he manages to see his parents. He tries to apologise from what happened that morning but they couldn’t hear him and the city gets transformed and we see where the events from issue one start to take place. The Rangers are devastated to see their home being taken away from them and Superman tries to comfort Zack saying that he knows what he feels as his own home was destroyed and a city taken by Brainiac. Superman says that the bottled city will be on Brainiac’s ship and it is also located in low orbit. The Rangers want to get up there but Cyborg first objects saying that they are powerless, since they no longer have their coins, but Batman says that they are not. He then says that once that he takes a city he then destroys the planet and that they don’t have long to rescue them.

Wonder Woman then says that they will need to create two teams, one team to attack Brainiac’s ship and the second team to do defence on Earth, Batman agrees with this and says that he brought somethings to help from the trophy room in the Tower. Jason gets the sword of Azrael, Zack gets an axe and Kim gets Green Arrow’s bow. But not only do they get weapons but they also borrowed costumes as well from other characters from DC with Red Hood, Lex’s armour, Katana, Hawkgirl, Prometheus and I think Black Lightning. Batman leads the attack force on the Brainiac’s ship and Wonder Woman is leading the defence on Earth and Superman says that he is going to be the distraction by attacking the ship.

The attack force of Batman, Cyborg, Zack, Trini and Billy board onto the ship and Billy finds a console for Cyborg to interface with and he manages to find their Power Coins. Cyborg calls in Superman to retrieve the Coins where he manages to do it with ease and Zack starts to morph when he gets blasted, by Cyborg. More correctly Cyborg being infected by Brainiac and he then blasts Batman. Billy then morphs and tries to tell Cyborg to fight the control but Brainiac’s influence seems to be stronger and Billy, apologising, stabs his staff through Cyborg ending the issue.

This seemed to be an alright issue, seeing the Rangers at a bit of a low point not knowing what is happening to their world and also giving a reason what happened during the beginning of issue one, which I really had no clue in what happened then. Hopefully with two issues left the story continues to be interesting.

Justice League/ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #3 Review

Previously in the series, Lord Zedd tried to attack the Power Rangers but Zack manages to teleport him and Zedd out but they land in a different universe. Zack ends up meeting Batman and the rest of the Rangers arrive and they have a confrontation with the Justice League but that stops when they both realise what has happened. Meanwhile we find out that Zedd has found that he was teleported inside a Bottled City owned by Brainiac and they come up with a plan for Brainiac to get a city from Earth but not the DC Earth.

The issue opens Superman arriving in Cairo and sees one of the giant squid monsters that are attacking cities around the world. Back in Gotham with the Justice League believing that they need to split up to take down the creatures but Jason chimes in by saying that they do need to split up but stick together which confuses Flash.JLMMPR2 Jason then says that they are still connected to their teleporters in their dimension so that they will team up with each member and help them battle the monsters. Batman tells them that they won’t since that they don’t know them well to fight with and that this isn’t their Earth. The Rangers then retort that even thought that this isn’t their planet it sure is their fight since it was them who brought Zedd to this universe. Plus, they know how to take down Zedd’s creatures. Billy asks Cyborg to link into their communication systems and he does and Tommy tells Batman that they don’t have time to argue with lives at stake and that if he doesn’t want to work with them then he should stay out of their way.

Cyborg starts broadcasting a message to the Justice League reservists about the situation that is happening and we see who the reservists are. Green Arrow, Black Canary, Mera, Aquaman, Shazam and Beast Boy and Starfire from the Teen Titans.JLMMPR1 Cyborg then tells them that they will be joined at the sites by large mechanical dinosaurs and tells them who is piloting them. Cyborg then gets Batman ready to teleport to Australia but something bad happens, somebody starts to hack into the Watchtower and it took out the firewalls that Batman had in place and knocked out the teleporters. Batman asks if Zedd would be behind this but Billy tells they that Zedd would have no clue about computer systems and that it must be somebody else. Zack then tells them the fastest way that he can get Batman to Australia was for him to get into the Mastodon, which he does and when they get to Australia we see a team consisting of Supergirl, Hawkgirl, Batgirl, Kid Flash and the new Green Lantern whose name blanks me attacking a monster.

Batman asks Zack what that creature is and he replies that he has no idea. He then explains to Batman that on their universe that Zedd’s creatures are usually made the things from JLMMPR3Earth and asks if this Earth is populated by nightmares but Batman says that this creature isn’t from their world. Wonder Woman with Kim asks if there is any advice on tackling Zedd’s monsters and she replies just to keep on the attack and then we have a three-panel page showing the Justice League and Rangers attacking the monsters. Cyborg then informs them that somethings have entered Earth orbit and sees something hitting the Tyrannosaur Zord but Superman notices something about it and that they are Brainiac Drones and we then see them entering the other Zords kick the Rangers out causing them to de-morph. Wonder Woman grabs the nose of the Pterodactyl Zord and sees something happening and tells them to get the Rangers out of their Zords and we have a splash page of the Zord in it Megazord form with Brainiac’s symbol on the front. Wonder Woman manages to get Kim out, John Steward gets Tommy out and Batman blasts his way into the Mastodon Zord.

Inside the Mastodon Zord Batman tries to pull Zack away where he asks what Batman is doing and then tells his that the drones had taken their communicators and Power Coins and saying that they were going to go to their world and we see the Zord teleporting in a green flash. Batman asks for a report and the team replies across the world hat the monsters had disintegrated, the zords had disappeared and that there were no longer any signs of the Brainiac Drones since that they were no longer in their dimension since they now have what they wanted. Back in the Watchtower, the Justice League and Rangers re-group and the Rangers seemed to be rather disappointed since that the Rangers are now stuck on this Earth and they have no way back to stop Zedd and Brainiac from attacking Earth. Superman responds to the negative of the conversation by saying that Zedd isn’t just their problem and that says that it is up to them all to stop him. But Zack is still rather pissed since that they are still trapped on this Earth and asks if any of them can travel across dimensions. Flash chimes is saying that he can travel through dimensions due to the Speed Force but since that the Rangers can’t tap into that they would most likely to be ripped apart. After this Billy comes up with an idea that being if this Earth had a Large Hadron Collider.

The Rangers and League arrive in Switzerland at the Cern Facility and Tommy asks how this plan is going to happen since that it does seem to be something of a risk and how they are going to get access. Cyborg says that somebody will have to ask really nicely and Trini questions if the League always get what they want by asking and Batman replies saying that he can’t and the design for the panel looks like that he is sad when he says it. Inside the facility and the scientists that are there are shocked to see him and the thank him for saving the planet from the creature and asks he then asks them for a favour of borrowing the Large Hadron Collider. JLMMPR4The scientists seemed rather confused by the request and Superman responds saying that this is to help the fate of another world and shows the scientist the Rangers to help save their world. Later in the building Superman starts explaining to the scientists on how this team can perfect opening the door with Flash being a scientists and speed expert, John Steward being an architect with a ring that can construct anything, Billy being one of the smartest minds in his world, Cyborg being a supercomputer that can instantly do calculations and tests, Wonder Woman having the wisdom of Athena and Batman because he is Batman. He then sums up that he believes in them and they can get the Rangers home ending the issue.

So with this issue I found it to be another good issue and we got to see the plan that Brainiac and Zedd by taking the Power Coins and overriding the Zords to travel back to their Earth. Hopefully more story progression is going to happen in the next few issues since that there are only three issues left.

Justice League/ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #2 Review

We continue off with the Rangers arriving in the DC Universe to help Zack and continuing their fight against the Justice League. The team notes that the Flash has vanished but Billy jlpr5bring s up that he hasn’t that that he moves too fast for them to see. Tommy asks why he hasn’t attacked them yet and Billy assess that he is watching them to see what they do, he then contacts Kim to see if she still has Batman. She says she does but also says that there is somebody else up there with her flying and we see that it is Superman who tells her to land the Pterodactyl.

John Stewart arrives at the scene and asks Flash what they are dealing with. Flash says that he thinks that the Rangers aren’t from here and have no idea who they are.jlpr3 John replies says that they attacked Batman but Flash responds says that if he didn’t know who Batman was he would attack him too. John then encases the Rangers in a bubble construct but the Rangers break out of it easily by summoning their Zords and we get a cool two page spread of the Rangers roll call. Jason comes up with a strategy to have Trini and Billy to run protection whilst the rest of them attack the Justice League. The Zords blast away John and he starts falling with Flash being able to catch him, Cyborg then arrives down from the Watchtower. Cyborg tries to blast the Dragonzord and manages to damage it and in retaliation Jason tries to blast Cyborg with Eye Beam attack but Flash manages to save him. He then runs up the back of Jason’s Zord and vibrates through and takes out Jason.

jlpr6He goes to punch Jason but Superman stops him from doing it. Kim also tells Jason to stop fighting and says that the Justice League aren’t the bad guys. Jason questions on what if she is wrong but she responds by telling him to trust her since that we then see that she has been bound in Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. Zack apologises for what he has done and says that in his defence that in their universe heroes don’t dress up like bats. Wonder Woman then asks them who they are and Kim responds saying that they are the Power Rangers, protectors of Earth in their dimension. Billy then adds that their base was attacked and their teleporters damaged and that was how Zack was transported here. Trini then says that they can’t leave yet and they tell them that they Zack wasn’t the only other one that was transported and that he brought with him a great threat and we then see Lord Zedd hurtling through space and then a green light teleporting him somewhere.

jlpr2Zedd wonders where he is and questions an alien on where he is but he tells him to be calm and not to draw attention as HE will notice them. Zedd questions on who will notice and we see a large shadow approaching them and we see that Zedd is inside a bottled city. The alien shouts to run and hide but Zedd isn’t having any of that and uses magic to make himself grow back to normal size and he breaks out of the bottled city and we find that he has come face-to-face with Brainiac. A bit of time passes and Zedd and Brainiac talking with Zedd noting that they both want the Universe and that they both have had the same problems conquering and that it their problems with the Justice League and the Power Rangers. Zedd comes up with an interesting idea of saying that he needs an Earth city for his collection but suggests that he takes a city from his dimension and Brainiac seems interested by this. He asks Zedd what he needs for his plan and says that he would need some creatures from his other bottled cities.

Back in Gotham the two teams are glad that they have used diplomacy to resolve their problems instead of fighting. Batman has a rather good line where he says that the last dinosaur that attacked him ended up as a trophy in his cave and Zack continues asking how they are supposed to know that Batman is a good guy. jlpr4Superman apologises about Batman but he then hears something. Cyborg then notes to the team that the internet just exploded with news that there are monsters attacking the world. We then get another amazing two page spread where we see four cities, Tokyo, Melbourne, Cairo and Dublin being attacked by giant octopi type monsters. Superman flies off and informs that they will need every Justice League members and reserves on every continent. Batman then points at Zack saying that he brought this here and that they will help them fight them since that fighting giant monsters attacking cities is what they do, ending issue two.

Overall this is a really good issue. The Ranger and Justice League were able to resolute their problem that they were having and I can’t wait to see what they have install for them to for the next issue. But the most important thing is that we now know what happened Zedd and what his plan is since that it was shown at the beginning of the first issue and I have to reiterate I am looking forward for the rest of this series.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink Review

Last year Boom! Studios started their imprint of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series and I have enjoyed reading that series and I will get around to covering more of that series when the current arc finishes. But today I am not going to be covering that series but a mini-series based around Kimberly- the Pink Ranger- and a story that happened to her when she left the series.

The first issue starts off in a locker room at the Pan Global Games in the Netherlands, where we see Kimberly phoning her mother trying to get a hold of her but it keeps going to voice mail. One of the competitors asks her to come out and celebrate their victories and we then see that Kim has won a lot of medals. She declines saying that she is going to meet with her mother and stepfather and she decides to head to where her parents are at in St Moineau. She narrates that she thinks that she can get there in about five hours and how she misses the old days and being in a team as well as being with Tommy. She also goes on to say that she has found it harder to readjust to civilian life since being a Power Ranger was rather awesome.

Kim arrives at the town she exposits about her parents for a bit since her stepfather called Steven that he managed to get a job to run his own gallery since that they already lived in Paris. But going through the quaint village she notes that there is something off and that there is nobody around.mmprp2 She arrives at her parents’ house and calls out to see if they are home and she forcefully opens the door by shattering a glass. She goes through the house and notices that her mother’s phone is sitting on a table and there is no service and that the landline has no dial tone. She hears some loud crashing sounds and heads out to see where it was coming from but stops and grabs her cases which has her own gear that she still has. Plus, something of note, Zordon gave her a communicator that was designed for emergency use and it does get me thinking if he did the same with Jason, Zach and Trini. She gears up, even having her own bow and arrow set. She heads out in the streets and hears somebody yelling out no (in French) and she sees sea creatures who have captured a guy.

She manages to take down the monsters and the guy that she saved tells her to follow him and they head inside a bistro. He says that his name is Serge and thanks Kim for the rescue, she is also being glad that he can speak English since her French is rather mixed. She asks him if he knows anything about the monsters but he isn’t sure since that he was studying in London and when he hadn’t heard from his family in a few days and when he has been looking for clues for the past three days and he says that it has town has changed a lot saying that it is like a ghost town. He also goes on to say that for the time that he has been here the numbers of the creatures has grown. Kim asks if he had seen any of other survivors including her parents and he says that the hasn’t. She also asks why nobody has tried to contact the police, military or even the Power Rangers and he replies that the power has been no power or service since this started. He then says that he saw the creatures head off into a cliff where they might have taken the people but the other survivors are too afraid to investigate. He points it out on the map and Kim says that she is going to get some powerful friends to help searching in the cave and tells Serge to lay low and stay safe.

Kim arrives back at her parent’s house and thinks that this has something to do with Rita and Zedd and contacts Zordon for help. mmprp6Zordon is happy to see her again and she fills him in on what has happened and asks for the help from the Power Rangers. Zordon unfortunately says that the Rangers can’t help her since they are off planet dealing with Zedd and he hasn’t heard from them in a while. We then see that Kim still has feelings for Tommy and she seems that her world is slowly coming around her. But Zordon does have some good news and can help her, Alpha 5 says that she still is the bearer of the pink energy and unlike what happened with Jason, Zach and Trini she didn’t transfer her powers to Katherine through the Sword of Light. Zordon says that the sword can re-energise the Pink Ranger power for temporary amount of time to help her fight against the monsters in the town. Zordon teleports the sword to her and the sword glows pink and we see a new morphed form that sort of does resemble the original costume but adapted in a useful way. Alpha then notes that there is something different about the creatures and tells her to restrain the creatures and not to destroy them. Zordon tells her to be careful about the Sword since it taps into Zordon directly and tells her may the power protect her. Serge wonders if Kim is alright and when he pops his head out the door he notices the Pink Ranger heading towards the cliffs.

Kim arrives at the cave and she notices that there are a large group of the sea creatures there and is nearly attacked by one but she took it out alerting the rest of the group and she engages them. She gets into the middle of them where they manage to group her, but she manages to repel them in a burst of light. She celebrates the small victory but a voice interrupts her saying that it’s so good that she finally joined them, with Kim recognising the voice revealing Goldar, who was waiting for Kim in civilian form and she also notices that a creature has her mother.mmprp8 Goldar says that she will help him bring a creature to life and Kim says that Goldar is nothing but a lackey and could do nothing on his own. He replies saying that he has his own ambitions and retorts that she will help him but Kim replies that she will never help him. But Goldar says that he will show her the error of her ways and that if she doesn’t she will suffer the same fate as her mother at the hands of Verto. Kim says let go of her and her mother recognises her voice but we then see Verto turning her into one of the sea creatures ending the first issue.

Issue two begins with Kim seeing her mother being turned into one of the Sea Creatures by Verto. Verto controlling the Sea Creatures orders them to destroy the Pink Ranger but Goldar then says to bring the Pink Ranger to him, this just seems rather confusing. Kim narrates to herself that there are too many of them for her to deal with and she decides to leave can come back with possibly a better strategy. She then uses her bow and creates a distraction and leaves the cliff.

Kim arrives back at her parent’s house narrating by going over that Goldar has a creature that can create an army and that she’ll have to find a new plan. A hand comes out to tap Kim shoulder and as a natural reflex and flips the guy over revealing the person to be Serge. She asks him how he got in and tells him not to sneak on somebody. He replies that he was waiting for her to return and he was worried about her. Serge asks her about the Pink Ranger and Kim replies to him about what is going on. Serge asks her how she knows this and she replies that the Pink Ranger told her and then she gets a good idea. He asks her what the plan is but Kim ushers him out of the house saying that she is going to talk to the Pink Ranger but Serge says that he wants to help but she says that he should leave it to the professionals. He replies saying that he isn’t going to hide since that this is his town and she doesn’t have the right to stop him from helping. Kim decides to give him a side quest to go and tell the other survivors that help is coming and Serge says that it doesn’t sound interesting, but Kim explains why it is important so that they can stay safe and that Goldar can’t get any more people to add to his army. Serge complies but he says he wants to help her the next time.

Kim contacts Zordon informing him that she can’t handle Goldar and Verto alone and she needs the help of the other Rangers asking them to take her to where Jason Zack and Trini. But Alpha says that Jason is unavailable with Zordon says that Jason is on her own mission, maybe in a series that we could see later in a mini-series of his own maybe. She asks Zordon if it’s possible to share the power with them and Zordon says that it is possible. Kimberly is rather nervous about it since that this is rather dangerous for Zordon since it their power feeds off him. Zordon says that he is willing to take the risk since that the power transfer would only be for a temporary amount of time and Alpha says that she has sent the location for Zack and Trini to her communicator. But it turns out that Serge is eavesdropping on the conversation wondering who she is talking to where Verto’s hand grabbing him.

Kim is transported to somewhere in South America and notices a hang glider coming down towards her and it isn’t stopping. The person in the glider turns out to be Trini who jumps off the glider and hugs Kim saying that she had missed her. Trini asks why Kim came here and she says that she is here because of an emergency and fills her in what has happened. Trini takes it in and tells her to come and get Zack. Trini then fills in what they have been doing in the past year and the things that have changed that doesn’t have that much to do with the story and we see Zack training with students no doubt in Hip-Hop Aikido. Kim puts her hand on Zack but instead of being flipped over to the ground Kim manages to land on her feet and the two embrace. She then tells Zack the story and says that he is aboard too and they teleport back to the town.

Back in the village the gang contact Zordon and they tell what him the good that they have done. Zordon then says exposits about the Sword of Light and transforms Zack and Trini into the Power Rangers and something rather cool is that since Zack was wearing a jacket, it got incorporated into his costume.  Zordon gives Kimberly the sword and tells her to use the sword to transfer the power back. They decide to come up with what they should do with the sword, if they should use it in battle or hide it somewhere in town, but a voice comes over the communications and Kim says that it is Tommymmprp3. We then see a hologram message of Tommy in his White Ranger costume and Trini believes that they can see him because of Zordon’s energy being fragmented routing them to them. Tommy says that he has lost communications with the other Rangers and that Rita and Zedd have the upper hand and he might be all alone. Kim tries to talk with Tommy who manages to hear her and he appear to be shocked that he can hear her but when they try to talk more the hologram cuts off and we see Kim feeling worried about the safety of Tommy and the team.

But then the Sea Creatures break in to the house and they attack the Rangers. Kim gets taken down by one on the creatures and loses the sword in the process where we then see that Goldar is then and he picks up the sword. He sues the sword and now can depower the Rangers and puts them in a cage. Goldar welcomes to his lair and Kim says that Rita’s plan will fail as always but Goldar responds saying that this isn’t Rita’s plan but his. Goldar says that he lured the them here that he didn’t know how he was going to use the power into his new weapon, but since that Kim was in the possession of the Sword of Light he can use that to tap into the power of the morphin grid to bring his weapon to life. What is that weapon you ask? It turns out that Goldar built a new Zord out of the remains of the old Thunder-Megazord renaming it Typhonis. Kim says that this is her fault since she was the one that she contacted Zordon and brought them here and that she has failed. But Goldar reveals something else that they were betrayed by Serge ending issue two.

Issue three starts off with Goldar pleased that he has Typhonis fully powered and Serge says that he lives up to his side of the deal and that he wants his sister back. Goldar of course being the villain he is turns back on his deal and throws him into the cage the Rangers are in and we see that his sister is okay. Serge is glad to see his sister is okay and asks the others for forgiveness for what he did. The then see that Verto has changed another captive into a Sea Creature and Kim says that they must find a way out and if they are ready to do on the fly. Goldar then reveals to them that they are the Rangers and things start to make sense for Serge when he saw Kim vanishing in a pink light. Kim comes up with an idea and she thinks that Trini might be able to help since that the plan involves using the communicator since she helped Billy create them.

Goldar hears something and when the turn, they see the Power Rangers standing in front of the cages and Verto tells his monsters to attack. But it turns out that the Rangers were in fact holograms and this causes the creatures to knock over the cage and they escape. They manage to find a way out of the caves, or at least to a safe spot, when one of the Sea Creatures tries to attack them but it turns out that this one turns out to be Kim’s mom. She tries to get her not to attack and she manages to get through to her and the embrace each other. Kim says that she needs to get the Sword of Light from Goldar but she also wants them to focus on freeing the rest of the townspeople and she comes up with a plan that again has Trini’s help in

Kim manages to distract Goldar and manages to grab the Sword of Light and morphs her Zack and Trini back into their Ranger modes. Goldar gets annoyed at Verto that he let Kim get the sword and blames his problems on him. Verto starts showing frustration at Goldar and says that they both serve Rita with Goldar responding that Rita doesn’t even knows that he exists. Verto turns on Goldar and has his minions attack Goldar, but he then heads off to pilot Typhonis. Kim tries to stop him but he knocks her back. Serge heads back to grab more survivors while Zack and Trini run defence. Back with Kim, Goldar says that she will be consumed by Verto and his creatures and Verto says that her or Goldar wouldn’t be able to take out his numbers. Kim notices her mother in the group of creatures and tries to leap away but realises that she hasn’t gotten far since that it seems that the splitting of her powers to the others came at a small cost. But monster mom is there with the save when she puts Kim on her back and she starts climbing up the Zord. The creatures start climbing up as well but Kim starts slipping and her mom manages to catch her.

Goldar jumps through a hatch into the Zord and monster mom pursuits after him ahead of Kim. She follows and can’t see where they went but Goldar tries to attack Kim but she deflects the attack with the Sword of Light and we see that in his other arm he has Kim’s mom. The two of them start to have a duel but that doesn’t happen as Typhonis starts moving and Goldar loosens his hold on Kim’s mom.mmprp4 Kim leads him to another area in the Zord and he follows but when then find out that Verto is controlling the Zord through his trident. Kim tells her mom that she’ll be back for her and Goldar tries to attack her. Verto then exposits about himself saying that he spent the past three years without rising in the ranks and he will send Kim and Goldar to the bottom of the sea. But when Goldar tries to escape he manages to let in water and she says that they need to work together to escape. The issue ends with Verto saying that he is going to use his creations to escort Typhonis to the bottom of the ocean and plans to kill them ending issue three.

Issue four beings with Typhonis walking along the ocean floor with Kim and Goldar trapped inside. Kim tries to reason with Goldar since the Megazord is taking on water but Goldar isn’t complying. But after a slight bit of convincing Goldar agrees to work with her, for now. They agree that they are going to take down Verto together and alive since that could be the only way that Kim can change her mom and the rest of the town’s population back to normal.

Back up top Verto is prematurely celebrating since that he is increasing the size of his army to take over the world to please Rita and Zedd, then he manages to transform another prisoner into one of his creatures. Zack and Trini confront him and they try to stop him but Verto has his minions to simply attack the Rangers. Zack notes that Kim in inside of Typhonis and asks Trini is if she can contact her but she can’t. Trini asks Zack to take on more of them so that she can contact Zordon. mmprp5Trini asks Zordon to see if he can help Kim but then that gets side tracked since Zordon is weakening. Trini then asks how they can help the people but Alpha says that the only observation that was made that only Verto can change them.

Inside Typhonis the water levels are rising more and that it looks like that they can’t escape the same way they came in. Kim asks if Goldar had built an escape pod for the Megazord but he said that he didn’t because he isn’t a coward but he does bring up that the Zords were made up of the greatest zords ever downed. Then Kim realises an idea and asks if there are any Zords that are complete enough to fly them out of here. Goldar says that he found the Zords in pieces and he was able to build it with the technology from Cyclopsis, the Zord that the Rangers fought near the end of season one, but he says that the larger Zords are too entwined with Typhonis. But Kim brings up about a smaller Zord and brings up the Firebird Zord. Goldar says that it is possible to use it off the power of Typhonis and he re-routs the power to operate the Zord. Kim arrives at the door for the Firebird and enters the cockpits and tries to power it up which she manages to do. Goldar also gets ejected from Typhonis and is picked up by the Firebird. Kim notices that Verto has moved on into the village and Goldar says that she needs to take the shot and destroy Verto and his monsters but Kim rejects the idea. Kim kicks Goldar away from the controls and he turns on their deal and jumps out of the Firebird.

Verto notices the Firebird in the sky and he summons Typhonis from the ocean floor. The Firebird flies over the coast and Verto throws his trident at it causing it to crash. Zack chase after Verto but he captures his and threatens to kill him, but Serge is there for the save. Goldar then tries to take out Verto but he gets freed and lands in the sea. This gives the chance for the Rangers, Serge and Britt to escape into a cave. Kim says that they should contact Zordon and Trini brings up that Zordon is getting weak and says that they should transfer the power back to him. They contact Zordon and Alpha then they say that they want to transfer the power back but Alpha says that their mission isn’t over but he says that they have good and bad news. Kim asks for the good news and that they found a way to give them more time to use his energy but he then wants to talk to them. He says that for them to win that she needs to have a full team together and this means for Kim to separate her power but Serge and Britta are transformed into the Blue and Red Rangers.

The Rangers walk out of the cave and they see Goldar just standing there. Goldar says that Verto must pay for what he has done and says that he needs their help to vanquish him. But Kim says that they will help him but they make the rules that Verto remains unharmed until he turns the villagers back to normal and he can then do what he wants to Verto and he agrees to their decision. The rangers then set up a safe spot at what I do think is Kim’s parent’s house, I don’t think there was an exterior shot before, and they plan to make it a safe area and get the remaining survivors back there. Goldar informs the rangers that he sees something coming and Kim tells the Rangers to meet her by the Firebird. The final page sees Verto on the shoulder of Typhonis with his army of Sea Creatures about to wage war on the Rangers and Goldar ending issue four.

Issue five begins with the Rangers fighting the Sea Creatures inside the town with Typhonis dealing with Goldar. Goldar tries to tries to damage Typhonis but it doesn’t seem to be doing that much damage and Kim asks if he wants any help, but he says he does want help but not nicely. Kim congratulates Britt and Serge since they are doing well containing the creatures in pit falls while she tells Zack and Trini to scale Typhonis so that can distract Verto. Kim then gets into the Firebird to help Goldar but Typhonis knocks her down with ease. Kim says that Plan B is on deck and calls in for an update from Serge and Britt. They say that they are working on monster control and Kim says that since the survivors are helping with the control for them to shift their focus now onto Typhonis.

Verto manages to capture Goldar in Typhonis hand and he says that he is going to destroy him and then take his place in Rita and Zedd’s army. Kim starts to freeze seeing Goldar in trouble since she can’t think of a plan but Alpha Five is here for the save. He manages to send them the Shark Cycles and has upgraded them with the power of flight. The Rangers take the fight to Typhonis manage to distract it rather well, Kim tries to go and save Goldar but Verto swats his hand and he manages to free Goldar as well as destroying Kim’s Shark Cycle. In free fall Trini tries to save Kim but Goldar saves her instead and they head over to the Firebird. Goldar manages to come up with the idea to draw the Firebird back to Typhonis and it manages to work, also for some reason Kim’s mom comes along. Kim contacts Britt and Serge and tells them to round up the rest of the monsters since they are inside Typhonis and she also tells Goldar that he can’t kill Verto.

Verto seems pleased that he thinks that he has taken out a Ranger and questions where the Yellow Rangers friends are and Goldar replies saying ‘Right here’. Kim’s mom rushes in at Verto and he says that he finds it foolish for him to bring a creature that he controls but Goldar makes another save, this just seems rather weird to see Goldar doing good. Kim knocks back Goldar and Kim’s mom holds Verto in place, Goldar turns off Typhonis and Kim tells the team that they have Verto. In the village, Kim demands Verto to change her mom back to normal and he does. Kim’s mom is rather curious on what has happened and asks about her fiancé and the Kim says that she will help her. Verto starts reversing his transformations on the villagers and Kim asks Trini and Zack to look after Goldar so that her, Serge and Britt can see their parents. Kim praises them for what they have done and they can’t wait to thank Zordon for the chance to be Rangers. Kim’s mom is shocked to see her there and asks where her stepfather is at and we see that the next person that gets changed back is him.

Kim heads back to where Zack and Trini where she takes away Goldar and Verto. Kim says that she is rather surprised that Verto changed the villagers back to normal and Verto says that they will never speak of this again and that Goldar is going to take him to Rita and Zedd. Goldar says that burying this mess is the best for everyone’s interests and he respects that she also saved his life. But his deal with Verto he says that it is the best interest to end this and he kills Verto. Kim seems rather shocked that he killed Verto and he says to Kim that if he finds out that she has told anyone on what he has done that he will kill her and her family. Kim heads back and she ends up finding Zack and Trini making out. Kim asks Trini how long this has been happening and we are lead to believe this has been happening since they left the Rangers. Serge and Britt reunite with them and Kim tells them what has happened and says that it is time to give the power back to Zordon. She says it’s time to call Alpha and Alpha appears just like that, he says that he has been contacted by the other rangers and he replays the message that they got.

Tommy says that they are off world and they are losing power quick and they need assistance fast, but more worrying he also says that Rita and Zedd have *blank* Zordon. Kat says to Tommy there is no use and that they must go and that’s the end of the transmission. Kim asks Alpha how long Zordon has left and he replies that they have roughly twelve hours left. Kim says that they have Typhonis in their control now and thinks that they would be able to go and help the Rangers off planet. Alpha was able to retrieve to co-ordinates for their location and tells them they must hurry and Britt asks what they will do now. Alpha says that they have sent some Zords to assist them and it is revealed that they are Tor and Titanus, they can assist Typhonis into space and then it’s up to the Rangers to do the rest. Kim tells Britt and Serge tells them that they might be new at this and says that it is morphin time ending issue five.

Issue six begins IN SPACE!!! Tommy and the current Ranger team are trapped on an alien planet where Rita and Zedd have manages to separate the Rangers from the Ninja-Falcon Megazord with the help of Serpentera, Lord Zedd’s personal Zord that is powerful to destroy a planet but drains of energy rather quickly. Tommy comes up with a plan to get back to the Zord with a plan to knock out the disruptor and plan on using the covering of the planets terrain to get there without alerting the Putties. They get further along and Kat then hears something approaching them and the Rangers react and see the Typhonis Ultrazord approaching the, with Tommy recognising Tor and Titanus. We then see inside the Zord and that Kim, Serge and Britt are inside Typhonis, Trini in Titanus and Zack in Tor.

Lord Zedd notes the arrival of the new Megazord and asks themmmprp10 to identify themselves with Kim replying that they are there to help the Rangers and says that they were sent by Zordon and Alpha. Tommy is glad about the help but also notes that with their arrival that Serpentera notices them. Tommy also has a plan noting that Serpentera has a device and needs Tor and Titanus to take it out. Kim then narrates to herself wondering if she would be as a confident leader like Tommy if she had stuck around. The Zords disengage and Zack heads directly to Serpentera and crashes right into it. Zack says he is okay and that he destroyed the disruptor and Typhonis was able to get the Rangers to the Megazord. But things are start to become more troubling as Britt notes that Serpentera has gotten past the defences of Tor and Titanus. Kim comes up with a plan to try and hold up Serpentera to make sure that the Rangers can get home. Kim braces the Zord from a direct attack and narrates on how that one hit would destroy Typhonis and hopes that Tommy can save them which he does. The Rangers do a roll call of their Ninjazords. Kim tells the Rangers to escape but Tommy says no and that both teams are going to get out of there alive.mmprp9 They punch Serpentera and manage to get away with Typhonis reverting to the Ultrazord formation and both Zords fly back to Earth.

Zack over the comms says that when they get back they should say that they were the ones who helped them but Kim says no that they need to return the energy to Zordon. Kim then narrates on how that she can contact Tommy by just pressing one button or by coming out of the Zord when they returned to Earth. But then she realises that a lot has changed since she left since she didn’t know that Tommy was off planet since what happened before. The Zords make their separate returns with the Rangers heading back to Angel Grove and Typhonis to St Moineau. Kim summons up Zordon and Alpha and says that it’s time to return the power to Zordon. He thanks them for what they did and Kim returns the sword. Trini asks what will happen to the Zords and that Typhonis will return to his hiding space and notes that the Zord is rather interesting and notes that Billy may be interested in it. But Alpha also gives them a parting gift a new communicator for all of them so that if another emergency were to happen they will be contacted. Britt thanks for Kim’s assistance in saving the town but Kim also thanks them as well.

Kim ends that panel by narrating the end but that isn’t really the end. We see her arriving back at her parent’s place and lying on her bed saying that when it comes to being a Power Ranger, is there ever an end and gets a message from Trini to meet at a Café where Zack is also there. At the café, Trini says that her and Zack are going to head Paris for a few says then back to the camp they were at but she seems rather hesitant since that she thinks that there is more that they can do. Kim agrees with what she says and that there is some rebuilding that is needed after the attack and if Britt and Serge had any questions about being Rangers answered. Kim does suggest that should go to Paris and Trini asks about her getting a vacation and replies that she is going to be staying here for a bit to spend more time with her mom, Britt and Serge. She also promises this time to stay more in touch with them since that they are family. Kim then heads over to Serge and Britt and asks them if they were mad for being Rangers for just a short time but they reply that they weren’t and that they were glad to be Rangers and being able to protect the town. They then say what they are going to be planning to do and Kin says that they will be good at what they are doing and that she is going to keep in contact with them since being a Ranger is being a family.

Kim narrates that she has taken what the others are doing and that being a Ranger isn’t the only way to be a hero. But for some reason she feels different about being a hero and feels rather guilty about it. She then goes on to what it would have been if they didn’t help Tommy and the others and that she wouldn’t have even known if he would be alive if she didn’t help and it makes her sick not knowing that.mmprp11 She then says that she should know this since that Tommy is an active Ranger and she thinks that what he would only see him as being a Ranger and she wishes that she had the same kind of certainty as hi. One year later we see Kim training in Miami and we see her then writing her ‘Dear John’ letter that she is trying to write to Tommy but she is seeming to have a problem writing it. On the final page, we see Kim narrating what I take to be what she wants to write to Tommy but not what she sends to him, it is rather emotional and we see Kim riding off into the sunset ending the series.

Overall I do like this series since it was interesting since we pretty much didn’t know what happened to Kimberly, as well as Trini and Zack, during their time when they were no longer rangers and we also see the reason on why Kim sent the letter to Tommy during Power Rangers Zeo pretty much doing a better retcon than what the writers of the show did. The writing for the series is good throughout but in some places, it does seem out of place. But there are two other things that I do like about the series. The first is the relationship that Trini and Zack have since that it is something new that the show didn’t do since that they were more focused on the Tommy/Kim relationship and that Zack and Trini had a run of bad relationships in the show. The second thing that I liked about the series and that is the possible hinting that Boom Studios could be making another miniseries this time focusing around Jason since that in this Zordon says that he was on a secret mission and I think that would make a good story.

Overall Score 8/10

Justice League/ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 Review

Last year it was revealed that DC Comics and Boom Studios announced that they were going to be doing a cross over between two of their titles for a six-part miniseries title Justice League/ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. When I heard that they were doing this series I was over the moon since that I am a fan of Power Rangers and I have been reading the current run of MMPR from Boom, which I should get around to reviewing the second volume.

The cover for this issue is rather good with the cover spilt into two parts with the Justice League on one side and the Rangers on their side.jlpr1 Another good thing about it is that it seems that the reflection symmetry does match off well with Superman and Jason in the middle since they are the main face of the team, Batman and Billy being the more deductive of the team, Cyborg and Trini being the technology translators, but Flash, Wonder Woman, Tommy and Kimberly I can’t think for the match up and the you have Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Zack are together for another unknown reason.

The issue opens up with a narration box saying ‘Angel Grove. Home to the Power Rangers’ with shots of the city and cutting over to a house and then to the high school. The narration continues on to say ‘Over jlpr5360,000 people live in Angle Grove… or did they?’ and then cutting over to the next page to reveal a giant crater where Angle Grove used to be. We then see the Rangers looking at the crater shocked about what they see with Zack kneeling saying that this is all of his fault but when he tries to repeat the line somebody cuts him off and it is Superman who tells him that it is not his fault. Zack says that they’re gone and we argued but Superman retorts saying that it isn’t on him and that they know who did this.

36 hours before that we see the Rangers in the command centre where Zack teleports in and Jason asks him where he was and he replies that he got into an argument with his parents about him disappearing too often. This is something that is actually a good point in the series since that I don’t think that around the era of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that there was ever a time where the parents complained about their disappearances before. Zack asks Zordon what has happened and he replied that Alpha Five has gone missing. Billy says that he went to do a check on the perimeter defences and Zordon lost the signal, he sends the Rangers out via the teleporters to find where Alpha had gone to. Zack manages to find Alpha in a forest and he asks Alpha what had happened to him with him just replying with Aye’s and Yi’s. Zack teleports back to the command centre where Zordon asks him what happened and he replied that he isn’t sure since that he looked like that when he arrived. Zordon points out that there is something wrong and tells him to teleport Alpha away with Zack getting a shocked expression on his face. Alpha Five explodes and blasts Zack away, Zordon tells him to wake up and then sees something that says to him ‘Oh yes’. Lord Zedd appears in front of him with an army of putties behind him.jlpr2

First of this is something that I am rather curious about with the canon for the Power Ranger series from Boom for the main fact is that they have only had two villains so far in the series. The first is Rita Repulsa since that the beginning of the story is set after the events of Green with Evil and the Mysterious Ranger who remote piloted the Black Dragon. It does make me curious if they do plan on adding Lord Zedd later this year for the series.

Zedd starts talking to Zordon and Zack cuts him off by saying no. Zedd tells him to stay down but he gets up and morphs in to is Ranger mode and tries to attack Zedd but he manages to whack him with his staff. Zedd says that he is stubborn or has a head injury to think that he can beat him, however Zack knows he can’t beat him so instead he decides to teleport him away. But Zordon chimes in saying that the Transporter is damaged but it’s too late. Zedd tells him to let go and Zack thinks that it is a good idea and he dumps Zedd somewhere but where that is we don’t know until possibly the next issue. Zack on the other hand crashes out of the teleporter landing somewhere.

Back at the command centre the other rangers arrive where they see the Putties are there and they morph and take them down. Trini picks up the head off the decoy Alpha and Zordon fills the team in on what has happened. Kimberly asks what happened to Zack and Zordon replies that he teleported him away but with the teleporter damaged in the blast all he knows is that Zack is far, far away and Trini asks where in the world he is and Zordon replies saying ‘that’s the thing…’. jlpr4Back with Zack he is beating up some Putties where headlights appear to then see Batman appearing telling Zack to put the axe down. Zordon finishes his line from before saying that Zack is not on their world. Zack replies to Batman saying that he knows what he is, whacking a Puttie in the process. He says that Batman is one of Zedd’s monsters but Batman says that he doesn’t know what Zedd is and that he can tell that he has a number of injuries and that he may have a concussion and again asks him to put down the weapon. But Zack replies with a no and jumps up to whack Batman with his axe, even though in the panel before they were standing in front of each other. Batman blocks the axe attack and manages to grapple Zack down onto the ground when in a splash page the Rangers appearing with Tommy saying ‘let go of our friend’.

Batman communicates to somebody asking for assistance and they reply being curious since that Batman usually doesn’t ask for help. He tells them that he is fighting enhanced beings that have increased durability, speed and strength. He asks where he is and he replies that he is in Illinois, then Ohio and closing in. Tommy asks Zack if he is okay and he gives him a run down in what happened to him. Billy tells him that Batman is not one of Zedd’s creatures and that he is unique to this world and that with the teleporter damaged he was transported to another world. But when Billy says that they are in another dimension a red blur passes straight through them taking their weapons revealing the Flash has taken them. Batman jumps into thejlpr3 Batmobile fires a missile towards Rangers and Kimberly tells then to get Zack out of there but Zack says that he can’t leave. Trini says that it is hard to rescue somebody if you leave them behind but Zack says that it is his fault since that he brought the fake Alpha and that he also brought Zedd to this dimension to as well and that they can’t go home without Zedd. Kimberly then replies saying that we have to deal with whatever this is and then summons the Pterodactyl Dinozord and plans to take out the Batmobile. Flash contacts the Watchtower, where Cyborg is stationed, Flash says that they need the big guns informing that they are dealing with enhanced beings and says that Batman has been taken by a Flying Pink Dinosaur Robot ending issue one.

For a first cross over issue this is pretty good beginning. We see the reason why the Power Rangers ended up in the DC Earth and the idea that the team thinks that Batman is evil creature that could be working for Zedd is rather interesting. It since that it is this is a first issue there is only so much story that they can have without it being bogged down in exposition. But there is something that I am rather curious about and that is how does the morphing grid still work when they are in a different dimension. I know that in MMPR season 3 they were in a similar incident when the Rangers went to another world to help Prince Dex and start off the Masked Rider series and Zordon said that there would be a strain on the morphing grid, but in the end there wasn’t any shown in the show. I am curious on what they are going to be doing for the next five issues since there is a lot of story that is still left to go as well as whatever devious plan that Zedd can come up with from the help of DC villains.

Mighty Morphing Power Rangers #0 Review

So for the past five or six months there has been more and more information on a new Power Rangers movie as well as a new comic book series and now the cast of the film have been revealed as well as the first issue of the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers comic book series and I got to say for a #0 issue it is really good at starting off a new rebooting of a series.

One of the things that I do like about the series before I get into the analysis portion of the review and that is the covers for the #0 issue and that it comes in roughly eight different covers. All of the different variants had different Rangers on them holding their helmets with the Zords shown in the visors of the helmets which is a really cool concept that they used for the covers.

The issue opens up with Rita Repulsa talking to the Green Ranger and how that he was able to destroy the Power Rangers and that she is ready to remake the world. This turns out to be a day dream that Tommy is havening when Jason snaps him out of it asking what’s wrong. Tommy simply brushes it off saying that he’s just tired and that it feels more like that its first day nerves for him going to high school as a Power Rangers, so theatrically this takes place roughly after the Green with Evil saga but set in more modern times. The whole team meets up in the car park of the high school where they do show more typical high school problems like finding out that had a test today instead of next week. But again for the rest of the page when there’s bit of general chatter going on Tommy looks like that he is in a completely different place. In these scenes we also see that a astral version of Rita appears back in Jason’s car and she talks about how Jason seems to be suspicious and something a little interesting and that is this line “Or a person at ALL, really.” Could this mean that there is more to Tommy such as what a reveal that happened in the Operation Overdrive series, where the Red Ranger turned out to actually be a cyborg/ robot.

We then have a quick cut-away to Rita castle where we see her walking through a door where she goes to see Finster who had made her latest monster known as Bullzer. Then we cut back to the high school where there actually learning something since I barely remember them spending anytime in class in the series. There an alarm goes off as Bullzer starts attacking the city and they evacuate students to the gymnasium except for our heroes who morph, not knowing if in public or somewhere private. We get a pretty cool morph scene where it does resemble the television series where it shows them posing with their morphers with a giant version of the morpher behind them. They then have them in a pose with their costumes and then go straight for the Megazord mode since that the Bullzer is already a large creature, which is something that does make the more sense of what Rita should have been doing instead of releasing the monster in a regular form and then growing into growth mode. We see the Bullzer moving forward to what appears to be the Golden Gate Bridge and then a giant blast to the face of it. Then cuts to the Dragonzord and Megazord posing with what appears to be a pink speech bubble asking what the creature is. The Megazord team decides to come up with a plan on to taking the Bullzer away from the bridge where they try and come up with a plan and then a miscommunication happens when Tommy in the Dragonzord decides to go head on and attack it. The Megazord manages to grab the Bullzer and have the Dragonzord make the attack that way but then something happens to the Dragonzord and that the controls start to freeze. We also get another astral Rita moment where she seems to be badgering Tommy saying that without her he’s not good enough. They manage to destroy the Bullzer but the Dragonzord controls go slightly crazy and its tail smashes the bridge and some of the cars start to fall off when Kim detaches from the Megazord and manages to catch the falling cars with her Zord.

Back at the Command Centre Tommy is explaining to the team on what happened with the Dragonzord but Jason think that Tommy was just being too cocky thinking that he can handle things on his own. Zordon breaks them up by sharing the blame on both of them saying that Jason should have made plan clearer and that Tommy should have asked questions when he’s not clear. Zordon then goes on to say that with Tommy on their side it struck a blow with Rita’s forces but since Rita knows more about the Green Power Coin they do remain concerned by that but in main focus remain on what can happen next. We then cut to night time where Scorpina retrieves something and brings it back to Rita It appears to be a crystal that Rita says is their new beginning.

I got to say I really enjoyed this comic. I’m not going to cover the two sub stories that are in the comic since that it’s not the focus of this but they are decent to read. I would really recommend this comic to people, who are fans of the Mighty Morphing era of Power Rangers since there is a lot of nostalgia going through it, plus the conversion for it to be now set more in current time is pretty good as well and it does work. Character development seemed to focus more about Tommy than the other characters but that was rather typical of the first season after the Green with Evil story line most episodes did focus on Tommy. But since that it was also the first issue of the comic there will be time for development in the later issues. I’m defiantly going to be adding this series to my standing order the next time I’m heading out.
