My Top Ten Doctor Who Villains

So with the 50th Anniversary upon us, BBC 3 did there own top ten Doctor Who monsters and villains and I thought it was a bad top ten and this here is mine.

10. The Weeping AngelsImage

The Weeping Angels were brought into Doctor Who in series 3 and have been focused more on in the Matt Smith’s tenure. For me these belong at 10th mainly because they are dealt with in the same way and it gets rather boring from episode to episode with them in. But to be fair they are the more scarier monsters from the rebooted series.

9. The SilurianImage
A group of existing homo-reptilians that live near the crust of the earth and seem to be more of a possibility in the actual world these creatures have lived longer than humans and want their world back, but in each of their encounters with the Doctor he has tried to negotiate peace with them. These are put here on the list mainly because they are now one is linked to the as a ally of the Doctor.

8. The SlitheenImage
Another new monster brought in from the reboot and featured in the spin off Sarah Jane Adventures, these creatures are a cunning and devious species that can infiltrate places by taking peoples skin and using it as their own, yet comes at a price as they tend to flatulence when they are in the skins. As a outcast family from Raxacoricofallapatorius they have not been seen fully in Doctor Who since series 1 and are due to return surely.

7. The Autons Image
One of the more unique monster in the whoiverse where it could get peoples minds actually focused since they were designed liked mannequins which are still used today. They were first encountered by the Third Doctor and was also focused around the first rebooted episode. For me after this I don’t think that they could be expanded on further, unless they were to do like a museum episode where the Autons were to be the museum attractions cause that would be a interesting story.

6. The Clockwork RobotsImage
Now to a one shot villain the clockwork robots, these are probablies the most well designed villains in Doctor Who as the fact that they run on old-fashioned clockwork mechanics. Originally working on board a ship till their ship started to fail they decided to use time windows and stalk a girl who turns out to be Madame de Pompadour who was a actual person as they were after her brain. But as the mass force of the clockwork robots where in 18th century France the Doctor ‘sacrifices’ himself by destroying a time window shattering the connection between them and the ship. As a one shot type episode this is the only thing I like from Steven Moffat.

5. The Ice Warriors Image
Habitants of Mars the Ice Warriors have only featured in two episodes but they have been both good episode. I really like the designs for the Ice Warriors either in their armour with a big turquoise coloured shell or as a weird creature that resmbles a mix of alien and some other weird creature. I would really like to see more of them since that there are more Ice Warriors now then there used to be.

4. The SontaransImage
Born as a warrior race the Sontarans are a tactile species that the Doctor has faced on numerous occasions. The first appearance of them was in the third Doctor arc called The Time Warrior which also featured the first appearance of legendary companion Sarah Jane Smith. They then went onto play three more episodes in the original series including a terrible episode (The Two Doctor’s). They were then reintroduced into the new series of Dr Who in a two parter where they were defeated yet again. But nowadays in the latest series there has been one Sontaran that has been reduced to be a comic relief character, I hope that in the new series with the new Doctor the Sontarans will be back to their old ways.

3. CybermenImage
Heart of steel and emotionless, the Cybermen are one of the most popular villains of all time in Doctor Who. Ever since the first appearance of the Cybermen they have always been able to adjust the way that they look (due to a better budget) and look more menacing that other villains. Yet what the have in strength in numbers they do lack in ways to be killed mainly either by gold or laser blasts. Since the rebirth of the show there was a Easter egg in the episode Dalek where it showed a Cyberman head in a display case and then in the second series to have the make a full debut in a two parter. But the last few Cybermen episodes have been a let down, defiantly the last episode where it showed the Cybermen being able to instantly adapt to it’s surroundings but the effects looked rather bad.

2. The DaleksImage
Born as a humanoid form and then built into a advanced killing machine. First debuting back in ’63 the Daleks have featured in many a story that has had major storyline with the Doctor including the debut of Davros and the creation of the Daleks. In the rebooted series the new Doctor was faced off against the Dalkes in two different occasions once in the Dalek episode and then again in the series two part finale. But in the Dalek episode I like that it was then returned in the series four finale when the Dalek from that episode was featured in that episode. But in the new series of Doctor Who they redesigned the Daleks and they looked terrible, plus in Asylum when they wiped the mind of the Daleks and they don’t know who the Doctor is any more which I think ruined the whole 50 years of Daleks.

1. The MasterImage
Growing up on Gallifrey and a possible childhood shared with the Doctor, The Master is possibly the only villain that he has ever faced that can match him on different levels of combat may that be hand to hand or a psychological. First appearing in Terror of the Autons he has also had a effect on the Doctor’s story arcs. As with the Doctor the Master also has the ability to regenerate and there have been six different versions of him throughout the years, even at one point been played by Eric Roberts in the movie role. The Master in my mind is the Doctor’s number one enemy as he is the same as him.

Films: 2014

So next year there are three films that to say feeling optimistic about seeing, they are Amazing Spider-Man 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers 4. First off I am a massive fan of each of these but I think that there will be a lot of critics going to have there a lot to say about them so I’ll get my licks in first.

First I’ll start with ASM2, I did enjoy the first movie a lot and I did like the casting choices like Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and also the fact that Mary Jane is nowhere featured unlike Sam Ramini’s trilogy where she was pointed out to be Peter Parker love interest instead of the true love interest who was brought in as a cameo in Spider Man 3. Back to the film, first the original thing I like was that they were bringing Electro in as the main villain but then it was announced that Jamie Foxx was going to be playing the role which made me rather disappointed, also the fact that this is the AMAZING Spider-Man the character design for Electro is ULTIMATE Spider-Man. The next thing I’m not keen on is Rhino as a secondary villain, though this could lead to a Sinister Six story down the road, plus the film then makes the tie in game non existent in the time frame as the game had a cross species Rhino as a villain.Other than this I’m looking forward to it and hopefully it will be good as the first.

The second film on the list is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films and the second Michael Bay film involved that’s on the list. This one though I know very little of the subject I hope that it is better then the TMNT CGI film released years ago. I believe that this is going to be a origins film and CGI turtles which hopefully they’ll get right. The other thing I know about the film is that Shredder is going the villain of the film and I really hope that they get the design right for Shredder, mainly because this year in Wolverine the Silver Samurai reminded me of Shredder and that really disappointed me. But the thing that has be bothering me is Megan Fox as April O’Neil. To be honest I have always hated her roles like Transformers and Hope and Faith but for this I do feel optimistic cause everyone deserves a second chance.

And finally on this list is Transformers: Age of Extinction. For a film that shouldn’t really exist since director Michael Bay said that Dark of the Moon was going to be the last film he probablies thought that he could milk the series a little more. First I’ve been a fan if Transformers since I started secondary school and I really thought that this could have been a good film if Bay didn’t fuck it up. First thing I like about the film is that Dinobots are included in the film, dunno which one’s they are but finally something decent from G1 in the movie. But now for three things I really hate about the film. One the possible fact that Megatron/Galvatron is not going to be the main villain in the film instead it’s going to be Nemesis Prime, a dark copy of Optimus, I really hope that they will add Galvatron into the fold but that could be unlikely. The second is that there has been little mentioned about Unicron who would have been a better villain then Nemesis Prime and gives more of a feel of G1 then Armada. And finally they have put too much focus on human casting then they do about the actual Transformers. First they have a totally new cast for the film with I think a few recurring characters, but the only character I like about the film is that Kelsey Grammer is playing the main antagonist of the film which I’ll be looking forward to.

Overall these three films I am feeling optimistic about yet when I see em you will be reading my reviews about em to see if I was right.

Batman: Arkham Origins Review

So with Arkham Origins been out roughly a week now and I’ve already completed it, dunno if that’s a good thing but am onto completing it again cause I messed up on some of the challenges, which I will get to later on.

First I really like the ORIGINAL premise if the game when Black Mask put a bounty of $50,000,000 on Batman, but then when you get into the first quater of the game you find out that it’s not Black Mask who puts the bounty but infact the Joker in his first appearence. I was dissapointed at this point cause I think Black Mask would have been a great villain to face instead of being a side mission villain. But what made the game more better for me was Bane before he succumbed to the side effects of Titan. Bane being a mastermind tactition and finding out who Batman was a really good point in the game. To be fair the story was okay, it could have been better but it was decent job from WB Montreal.

The next thing I like about the game was the ammount of free roam that you got in the gane, I mean with Arkham City you got to roam around a place twice the size of Asylum but this you roam around there and a whole bew part of the city which is pretty awesome. With this it means you have new places to explore like the GCPD headquaters but then being able to investigate the Steel Mill before the events of Asylum when Black Mask was doing drugs there.

Now we come to the part that I’m uneasy about and that was the villains in the game. First Killer Croc, in the game he does look rather bad ass and then the fight scene against him eas good as well. Then we move onto the character hyped for the game Deathstroke, a legendary mercenary in the DC Universe, it took me 5 attempts on easy difficulty to beat him but on normal it took 1 attempt. But then after you beat him you dont see him till your back at Blackgate confronting The Joker and Bane where he is still in his cell even though all the other inmates where released, but the thing I’m most intrigued about was the end cut scenes when *SPOILERS* Amanda Waller comes into Blackgate and give Deathstroke a file with the words Suicide Squad on it, I hope that this could point in to what a future DLC could be since I was dissapointed that there wasn’t anything for Deathstroke in the game or even a possible game.

Now going onto what I said about the part of the game I messed up on and that was with the different challenges. For some reason I cannot get past at least two challenges, one the 20 critical strikes and the exotic takedowns. First the critical strikes should also cover when you do beat downs but they don’t which really annoys me unless it’s a fight bug then hopefully that’s fixed. Then with the exotic takedowns challenge there’s only one chance to possibly do it with Bane’s forces in the hotel but other than that it’s impossible to do outside of a complete campaign, if this could be fixed to have repeating villain areas to do these challenges, I dunno if they carry over to the new game plus or if there might be something in that future dlc that may help but that for me has been a disappointment.

Overall the game was okay, there could have been alot of better changes and they could have put more focus on Black Mask instead of doing a rather boring Joker origins, but other than it was okay. Oh speaking of Joker how the hell did they get the meeting of Joker and Harley wrong since in Asylum they had audio tapes on their first psych evaluation in ARKHAM ASYLUM NOT BLACKGATE. For this my overall score is now 8.5/10 was good but not great.

Top 5 Horror Films

Since this is the time of year when people prefer to watch horror films here’s my top 5 Horror Films.

5. The Amityville Horror
For me the original Amityville Horror did have me slightly scared when I first watched it and made me think on what would life be like if the house I lived in was haunted and then I thought that if it was anything like the film I would be terrified. The film itself is good but it does have a disappointing ending. Also the remake was okay but didn’t hold a candle to the original.

4. An American Werewolf in London
A film that says what it is on the tin, two American backpackers accidentally stroll through a English countryside and encounter a werewolf and passes the curse over to the survivor. This film i found amazing and really good special effects with the way he was able to turn into a werewolf and then the friend that he keeps on seeing going through the different rotting stages was pretty sick. Never saw the sequel for this but apparently it’s not that good.

3. Halloween
One of the original slasher films that started the side where humans can be as deadly as a demon with what starts off as a child who killed his sister and now is looking for his other sister so he can finish what he started, but it did take him right find to do it and find out that he has a niece and then she has a child but it’s not explained who’s it is. But the original is the best, but I may have to see the Rob Zombie remake until then this is my favourite.

2. Friday the 13th Part 2
I would have started with the original where Pamela was the killer but to get where the original started and led to a dozen or so sequels. This film is also a lot of action and cool death scenes and it also shows that he didn’t always start off with the hockey mask. This film also got a remake which was released on Friday the 13th, I watched a part of it and I really didn’t like it that much and may need a second viewing.

1. Nightmare on Elm Street
Where your no longer safe from evil at all Nightmare on Elm Street, this film had a lot of cool special effects like the face coming from the wall and the corridor for turning into goo that was pretty awesome. The film is based around a family living in the house of a child killer and then the daughter finds out that it was her parents and other parents that killed Freddy. This film also got a remake and I liked it more than I did Wes Craven New Nightmare, and it also seemed to have a more up-to-date back story on why they killed Freddy as he was a paedophile. Both films were good and I recommend them both.Image

Pokemon Y

So with Pokemon X/Y released this past week and having completed it in about two days I’ve completed it I’ve decided to review it.

First I really liked the idea that you can pick a secondary starter to battle with and also a free Torchic to boot made the game seem more better but I think it would have been better if it was available after beating the elite 4.

The next problem that I had with the game is that the map is massive, and there is a load of different side bits that can distract from the gym battles like trying to find a pokemon in a large mansion or going through a cave that leads nowhere except to a Abomasnow and you can’t even battle it.

The next good thing that I like about it is that all the pokemon look canny awesome but there are some that do look rather weird like.

With that said about new Pokemon that look weird, the new mega evolution modes have made the pokemon look weird like Mewtwo, Ampharos and Absol, their modes look weird but the others look more awesome like Charizard, Lucario and Blastoise mainly cause they look more better designed then others.

The next let down I had was the disappointment of not being fully allowed to ride on Pokemon in the full game. I mean that it was fun to ride them like Rhyhorn and Mamoswine but the others seemed to really let me down cause I got a Skiddo and evolved it into a Gogoat but I couldn’t ride it and was really disappointed. But when I got the gift Lapras and taught it surf I was amazed about the fact that it was a Lapras you ride, I don’t know if it works with other Pokemon like Garadyos or Blastoise but I’d be more amazed if you could.

Overall the game itself is good and the Pokemon look awesome, but there are the slight problems like the fact that you can fully ride Pokemon and there are some other let downs that people that have had to deal with.

Overall rating: 8.5/10

GTA V Review

So I’ve been playing on GTA V for roughly a week and this has been the most far I’ve ever gotten on any GTA game. I never got off the first islands as C.J or Nico without using any cheats which I find amazing to myself cause am usually crap at these games.

The first mission that you do as Michael who has a ability to slow down time when shooting and Trevor who goes into a rage mode and is rather indestructible, the mission is really good. It is a good intro mission and better than other starting missions. Then after this you are introduced to the third Franklin who has a the ability to slow down time on a vehicle and makes travelling more fun.

The missions at time can seem really hard to do like some of the heist missions cause I was bricking it for the third heist that is done cause you have to battle through waves of police officers, private armies and tanks but I got a good score from it. Then the final score that needs to be done I was also bricking but again it was more fun and here’s a helpful tip to anyone trying to escape go for a grass hill area cause they wont follow you. It’s strange but it is true.

The next thing that I like about the game is that the landscape is amazing, the map is a lot better than any of the other games and it’s all on one map as well which bring all it into one great area.

But there were a few issues I had with the game. The first was that some of the controls where rather rough and hard to handle. One time is when you have to crash a plane into a cargo hold on a plane and I found it impossible to do.

Overall it was a great game and l would really recommend the game to anyone. Rating: 9/10
